Reporting To: Warehouse Operations Manager / Listing Team Lead
About Simon Charles Auctioneers: Simon Charles Auctioneers is a prominent and rapidly expanding auction house renowned for its diverse offerings. We pride ourselves on presenting an extensive range of items, from brand new retail stock and end-of-line goods to customer returns, used items, and unique collectibles. We process thousands of items weekly from various sources, and our commitment to accurate, high-quality listings underpins our success. We blend cutting-edge AI technology with essential human oversight to ensure efficiency and precision in every auction.
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated, meticulous, and target-driven Auction Item Listing & Quality Assurance Specialist to play a critical role within our operations team. This position is central to our listing process, involving the careful unboxing and preparation of a vast array of goods, professional photography, and the crucial task of quality assuring AI-generated product descriptions. The successful candidate will ensure the integrity and accuracy of our auction listings, directly contributing to our operational excellence and customer trust.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Item Preparation & Unboxing:
Receive, unbox, and meticulously inspect a wide variety of items, which may include brand new products, customer returns, used goods, and damaged stock.
Assess the condition of each item, noting any defects, missing components, or specific features.
Handle items of varying sizes, weights, and fragility with utmost care to prevent damage.
Organise items efficiently within the workstation for streamlined processing.
2. Professional Photography:
Capture high-quality, clear, and well-lit photographs of each item from multiple angles, ensuring accurate representation of its condition, features, and overall appearance.
Utilise company photography equipment and follow established guidelines for consistent image quality.
Upload images to our internal listing system, ensuring precise association with the correct item.
3. AI Description Quality Assurance (QA):
Review AI-generated product descriptions with an acute eye for detail, comparing the text against the physical item and its accompanying photographs.
Verify the accuracy of product names, models, specifications, attributes, and most critically, the condition notes (e.g., "new with tags," "used – good working order," "missing remote," "minor cosmetic damage").
Identify and correct any discrepancies, grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, or omissions in the AI-generated text.
Edit, amend, or rewrite descriptions as necessary to ensure they are factually correct, comprehensive, engaging, and adhere to Simon Charles' brand and legal standards.
4. Target Achievement & Efficiency:
Consistently meet challenging daily and weekly targets for the number of items unboxed, photographed, and quality-assured.
Maintain a high standard of accuracy and efficiency throughout all stages of the listing process.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the listing workflow by providing constructive feedback on AI performance and operational procedures.
5. Workspace Management:
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workstation at all times, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
Ensure proper disposal of packaging materials and efficient flow of items through the processing area.
Skills & Qualifications:
Exceptional Attention to Detail: Paramount for accurate item assessment, photography, and rigorous description verification.
Basic Photography Proficiency: Ability to take clear, well-composed product photographs. Experience with product photography or willingness to quickly learn is essential.
Strong Written English: Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation for critical review and editing of descriptions.
Computer Literacy: Proficient in using basic computer systems, uploading files, and navigating software interfaces.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move items of varying weights (up to 15kg independently, with assistance for heavier items), and perform repetitive tasks.
Highly Organised & Efficient: Capable of managing a dynamic workload, prioritising tasks, and working effectively in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
Target-Driven Mindset: A self-starter with a strong personal drive to meet and exceed productivity goals.
Reliable & Punctual: Essential for maintaining workflow and meeting strict deadlines within a set schedule.
Adaptability: Ability to handle a constantly changing variety of items and quickly familiarise oneself with diverse product categories.
Team Player: While much of the work is independent, collaboration with colleagues and management is vital for overall team success.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
Previous experience in an e-commerce, auction house, warehouse, or retail environment.
Familiarity with inventory management or product listing software.
Experience with AI writing tools or content generation (from a QA perspective).
Knowledge of various product categories (e.g., electronics, homeware, fashion, collectibles,
