Job description

Female Personal Assistant (PA)

£19.00 to £20.00 per hour (day rate).

Location: Orpington, Kent (applicants should live within approximately 1 hour travel)

About the Role

We are seeking a warm, energetic and engaging Personal Assistant to support a vibrant and sociable 18-year-old young woman with cerebral palsy, global developmental delay and epilepsy.

This is a dynamic, activity-based role suited to someone who enjoys being active, creative, and involved. The client has a strong interest in music, performing arts, and social activities, and thrives when supported by someone who can naturally connect with her interests and pace of life. She is looking for someone she can relate to, who brings positive energy, enthusiasm, and a collaborative approach to support.

She communicates verbally and expresses her preferences clearly, but benefits from gentle prompting, structure, and encouragement to stay organised and engaged.

She enjoys a wide range of activities including horse riding, swimming, cooking, gardening, listening to pop music, nature walks, meditation, dancing, singing and performing arts. She is also keen to explore age-appropriate social experiences such as attending concerts, festivals, and going to pubs, and would benefit from support from someone who is confident and comfortable engaging in these environments. The role involves both home-based support and regular community involvement.

There may occasionally be light involvement in supporting the wider family and maintaining a well-organised home environment.

Shifts and PayShifts:

  • Two weekday shifts and one weekend shift per week
  • Weekday shifts: Thursday and Friday afternoons (from approximately 3:30pm)
  • Saturday shift (hours to be agreed)
  • Flexibility required; additional shifts may be available

Pay:

  • £19.00 – £20.00 per hour (depending on experience)
  • Applicable Monday to Sunday, between 08:00 and 22:00

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide prompting and light support with daily living and personal care
  • Encourage independence while offering appropriate structure
  • Actively participate in social, recreational, and creative activities
  • Accompany the client to activities, appointments and outings
  • Support with cooking, organisation, and light household tasks
  • Build a positive, respectful and engaging relationship
  • Support emotional wellbeing through consistency and encouragement
  • Maintain safety and respond appropriately to seizures
  • Contribute to a supportive and collaborative home environment

About You

This role would suit someone who is naturally engaging, upbeat, and able to build a strong, relatable connection with a young adult. You should be comfortable taking part in activities rather than supervising from a distance, and enjoy a hands-on, interactive style of support.

We are particularly interested in applicants who enjoy creative and expressive activities such as music, singing, dancing, drama or similar interests, as these are central to the client’s daily life.

You may have experience in care, or similar people-focused roles. Equally, this role may appeal to someone at an early stage in their career who is looking to build meaningful experience in a supportive environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Female applicants only
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a care/support or relevant role
  • Experience or understanding of epilepsy
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately to seizures
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Non-smoker due to sensitivities
  • Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
  • Able to commit for a minimum of 12 months
  • Living within approximately 1 hour of Orpington

Additional Information

  • Employed role
  • Training and ongoing guidance provided
  • Opportunity to work in a highly engaging, person-centred role with a strong focus on shared interests and active support
