The research associate will work on characterization and interpretation of state-of-the-art Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) data from the Simons Observatory and on the design of the LiteBIRD mission. We are seeking researchers with an established track record in characterization and cosmological exploitation of CMB data or microwave sky simulations, and in the statistical modelling required at likelihood level.

The research associate will work across the Cardiff Astronomy https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/physics-astronomy/research/research-groups/astronomy and Astronomy Instrumentation https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/physics-astronomy/research/research-groups/astronomy-instrumentation groups.

Other members of the astronomy and instrumentation groups play leading roles in the search for signals from gamma-ray bursts, modelling and detecting gravitational waves, supernovae, cosmic dust, star formation and building the next generation ground and space-based telescopes.

This post is full-time and fixed-term for 2 years, available from November 2026.

A completed, or near to completion, PhD in Physics, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Astronomy or closely related area is required.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO CANDIDATES: It is the University’s policy to use the person specification as a key tool for short-listing and we only invite candidates to interview who clearly evidence that they meet (or partially meet) each of the essential criteria. During the application process you will be asked to attach a supporting statement. This statement must outline how you meet the criteria below and we recommended formatting this by using each criteria as a sub-heading and providing your relevant experience/evidence below each sub-heading. It is crucial that you save your supporting statement with the vacancy number (ID-227) in the filename as failure to do so may result in it being omitted from your application.

When attaching the supporting statement to your application, please ensure that you name it with the vacancy reference number, in this instance ID-227.

Cydymaith Ymchwil – Cosmoleg

Mae'r grŵp cosmoleg dan arweiniad yr Athro Erminia Calabrese a Dr Ian Harrison yn chwilio am Gymdeithion Ymchwil – Cosmoleg ar gyfer prosiect ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd.

Bydd y cymdeithion ymchwil yn gweithio ar nodweddu a dehongli data Cefndir Microdonnau Cosmig (CMB) o'r radd flaenaf o Arsyllfa Simons ac ar gynllunio taith LiteBIRD. Rydym yn chwilio am ymchwilwyr sydd â hanes diamheuol o nodweddu data ar y CMB a’i ddefnyddio’n gosmolegol neu efelychiadau awyr microdon, ac yn y modelu ystadegol sy'n ofynnol ar lefel tebygolrwydd.

Bydd y cymdeithion ymchwil yn gweithio ar draws grwpiau Seryddiaeth Caerdydd https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/cy/research/explore/research-units/astronomy ac Offeryniaeth Seryddiaeth https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/cy/research/explore/research-units/astronomy-instrumentation.

Mae aelodau eraill o’r grwpiau seryddiaeth ac offer yn chwarae rhan flaenllaw yn y gwaith o chwilio am signalau o ffrwydriaid pelydrau gama, modelu a chanfod tonnau disgyrchiant, uwchnofâu, llwch cosmig a ffurfiant sêr a chreu’r genhedlaeth nesaf o delesgopau daear a gofod.

Mae'r swydd cydymaith ymchwil dan sylw ar gael o fis Tachwedd 2026 am ddwy flynedd yn y lle cyntaf, neu nes bod cyllid ar gael.

PWYSIG: Tystiolaeth o Fodloni'r Meini Prawf

Dylai ymgeiswyr ddangos tystiolaeth o fodloni'r HOLL feini prawf hanfodol, yn ogystal â'r meini prawf dymunol lle bo'n berthnasol.

Yn rhan o’r broses ymgeisio, bydd gofyn i chi roi’r dystiolaeth hon ar ffurf datganiad ategol. Wrth gyflwyno'r ddogfen hon neu ei hatodi i broffil eich cais, dylech sicrhau mai cyfeirnod y swydd yw enw’r ddogfen, sef 227 yn yr achos hwn.

Mae Prifysgol Caerdydd a'r Ysgol Ffiseg a Seryddiaeth wedi ymrwymo i gefnogi a hyrwyddo cydraddoldeb ac amrywiaeth. Mae ein hamgylchedd cynhwysol yn croesawu ceisiadau gan bobl ddawnus o gefndiroedd amrywiol. Rydym ni’n croesawu ymgeiswyr benywaidd ac ymgeiswyr o grwpiau lleiafrif ethnig yn arbennig, gan eu bod heb gynrychiolaeth ddigonol yn ein Hysgol. Mae gan yr Ysgol Ffiseg a Seryddiaeth achrediad Ymarferydd Juno sy'n cydnabod arfer cyflogi da ac ymrwymiad i ddatblygu gyrfaoedd menywod sy’n gweithio yn y gwyddorau. Mae'r Brifysgol wedi ymrwymo i sicrhau ein bod yn cynnal amgylchedd gweithio cadarnhaol lle gall pob aelod o staff ffynnu a chyflawni. Yn rhan o'r ymrwymiad hwn, mae’r Brifysgol wedi datblygu fframwaith hyblyg ac ymatebol o weithdrefnau i gynorthwyo'r staff i reoli eu gwaith a’u hymrwymiadau personol lle bynnag y bo modd. Croesewir ceisiadau gan unigolion sy'n dymuno gweithio'n rhan-amser neu'n amser llawn.

Mae Prifysgol Caerdydd wedi llofnodi Datganiad ar Asesu Ymchwil (DORA) San Francisco, sy'n golygu y byddwn, wrth wneud penderfyniadau cyflogi a dyrchafu, yn gwerthuso ymgeiswyr ar sail safon eu hymchwil, nid ar sail metrigau cyhoeddi na'r cyfnodolyn y mae'r ymchwil wedi’i chyhoeddi ynddo. Ceir rhagor o wybodaeth yma: Asesu ymchwil yn gyfrifol - Ymchwil - Prifysgol Caerdydd

Gellir cyflwyno ceisiadau yn Gymraeg, ac ni fydd cais a gyflwynir yn Gymraeg yn cael ei drin yn llai ffafriol na chais a gyflwynir yn Saesneg. Rydym yn croesawu ceisiadau yn y Gymraeg yn fawr.
