Full job description

Wider Ambition provides education in calm, home-from-home, low sensory environments in rural surroundings, carefully designed to support students for small group and 1-1 teaching. Our students are unlikely to display challenging behaviour but are unable to access mainstream school due to autism, anxiety or sensory needs.

Our students are academically able and capable of learning at or above age-related expectations. However, some of our students have gaps in their knowledge due to periods of missed education, while others are learning above their chronological age group.

We are looking for a Physics specialist who is comfortable teaching Science to small groups of students at key stage 4-5 and there may also be the possibility to deliver to GCSE students (who may be post-16 due to gaps in learning). The ideal candidate would be a Physics specialist who is also able to support students at A Level, including preparing and running the experiments required for the practical endorsement. Successful candidates may also be required to teach other science disciplines.

In most cases, our GCSE and A Level curriculum is delivered primarily by Kings Interhigh through online learning, with our own subject specialists providing bespoke pre-teaching, consolidation, assignment support and exam preparation. However, there may also be a requirement for full curriculum delivery, depending on students' needs.

The successful candidate will have a positive and flexible approach, be patient and open-minded and be able to help students recognise and reach their full potential. An attitude of continuously reflecting on and improving your practice and a willingness to learn from ongoing training, from interacting with our therapeutic team and from colleagues and parents is essential. Previous experience and skills associated with working with young people with autism and anxiety are desirable.

Our staff benefit from the expertise of on-site therapists and bespoke ongoing SEN training. If you have a passion for learning more about supporting students with autism, anxiety and sensory needs and for enhancing your skills, this role provides an ideal opportunity.

This is a cross-site role, with A Level provision being based at our post-16 setting (Chestnut Place, B96) and younger students (age 9-17) being taught at Lokrum Fields (Stoke Pound, B60) and Sunbrae (Stoulton, WR7). Time spent travelling between settings is paid as normal working time and cross-site mileage costs are reimbursed.

We are open to applications for a part-time (at least 2 days a week) or full-time role.

Applications will be processed in line with our Safer Recruitment policy and will be subject to safeguarding checks. Online searches may be used to inform our view of the suitability of short-listed candidates.

We require applications via a form which can be found at the following address: https://widerambition.org/vacancies/

Please click on Staff application form, download the form and complete offline. Please email completed form to info@widerambition.org

Please note we are unable to support applications from overseas candidates who require a visa to work in the UK.

Safeguarding Statement

Wider Ambition is committed to safeguarding and promoting student welfare and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
