Full job description

Breathe Homes Ltd | London
Pay: £230–£270 per day, depending on experience and demonstrated ability

Breathe is looking for an experienced lime plasterer to join our team working on period properties across London.

We specialise in lime and clay plastering, natural fibre insulation and the repair and improvement of older buildings. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their craft and can take responsibility for their own work, from preparing the background through to a clean, completed finish.

You should already have practical lime plastering experience and be comfortable working independently to an agreed specification, alongside other members of the team.

The work

  • Prepare existing walls and ceilings, including careful removal of unsuitable finishes, repairs and preparation for new plaster.
  • Mix, apply, level and finish lime base coats and finishing coats.
  • Carry out repairs to existing lime plaster and work sympathetically with older backgrounds.
  • Complete reveals, corners, junctions and other details to the required standard.
  • Follow the specified build-up, including reinforcement, curing and protection where required.
  • Work on projects involving clay plaster, woodfibre and woodwool insulation, with responsibilities suited to your experience.

Preparation, protection and cleaning are part of completing the job. Most of our work is in people’s homes, so care for the property and consideration for the customer matter throughout.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven lime plastering experience, supported by examples of work you personally completed.
  • A sound understanding of background preparation, suction control, coat thicknesses, curing and finishing.
  • The ability to organise your own work, maintain steady progress and complete the agreed tasks to a consistent standard.
  • Confidence following a specification and raising concerns before changing materials or methods.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality and clear communication with the team and customers.
  • A tidy, organised approach to tools, materials, dust control and site protection.
  • The ability to travel reliably to our London projects.

You’ll be expected to keep the team informed of progress, provide clear photographs of completed stages and flag material shortages or site problems early.

Useful additional experience

We would also welcome experience with:

  • Clay plaster and decorative mineral finishes.
  • Lath-and-plaster repairs.
  • Woodfibre or woodwool insulation systems.
  • Lime rendering, repointing and traditional masonry repairs.
  • Helping a labourer or less experienced colleague work effectively.

Working with Breathe

Our projects offer varied work with lime, clay and natural materials, with opportunities to develop your skills in traditional building methods and natural insulation.

We value people who understand their trade, ask sensible questions and contribute practical ideas. Pay will reflect your experience, workmanship and the responsibility you can take for delivering the work.

How to apply

Apply through Indeed with:

  • A CV or short summary of your experience, including the lime materials and systems you have used.
  • Photographs of two or three relevant jobs, explaining what preparation and plastering you personally carried out.
  • Your location, availability and expected day rate.
  • Details of your tools and transport.

Please also be able to provide two references from people familiar with your work.

We’re interested in the quality of your work and how you approach a job. A straightforward application with clear examples is welcome.

Pay: £230.00-£270.00 per day
