Join Essex Police as a police officer and you'll receive a starting salary of £31,551 (including £3,000 South East allowance) Annual incremental salary increase up to £49,047 within seven years along with a number of other fantastic benefits.

To join our Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP) you will need to meet these eligibility criteria:
- be over 18 (you can apply at 17 and start work when you turn 18) – there is no upper age limit.
- be a British citizen, an EC/EEA national or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom. You will need to have lived in the UK continuously for the past 3 years (unless a serving with UK armed forces)
- be in good health, including fitness and eyesight.
- have no criminal record, although some offences may be considered by individual forces when you apply.
- achieved a level 2 qualification in Maths & English Language at a GCSE grade C or above or Grades 4 to 9.
You will also need to meet one of the below further eligibility criteria:
- you are an Essex member of police staff, a PCSO or special constable who have passed their probationary period.
- you have a minimum of 4 years’ service with the armed forces and have achieved an exemplary reference on discharge.
- have previous work experience or training that can be evidenced as comparable to a level 3 qualification.
We have agreed intake sizes for each of our entry routes. If oversubscribed, it may be necessary for us to make changes to your entry route to secure your optimum joining date. If this is the case, we will contact you.
