HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. Joining us is a chance to play a pivotal role in the smooth running of our courts, which give people and businesses access to potentially life-changing justice. The key purpose of the role is to
- Manage and plan the workload of an autonomous field team which executes warrants in accordance with HMCTS instructions.
- To manage the deployment of bailiffs and manage individual performance to achieve the most effective/efficient use of resources and effective disposal of business.
- Ensure Governance and Assurance around the safe and secure receipt, accounting and transfer of both money and personal data.
- Lead and manage a team of staff, ensuring that its members are organised, and fully skilled to meet their work objectives, using Lean TIBs, SOPs and other continuous improvement tools.
- To assist in the delivery of performance against targets.
Driving is an essential part of the job role and in order to apply you must: Be fit to drive and have a valid EU or UK Driving licence. You must have access to, and be able and ready to use your own car for work purposes, we will not be able to progress you to appointment if you do not have a vehicle at the point of offer. If you have a UK licence, after completion of your probation period, you have the option to take part in the Departments car leasing scheme.
Please note; (i) for insurance purposes, drivers of lease vehicles, pool or hire cars must have a UK driving licence for over 12 months (ii) Drivers using their own car must have insurance for work related travel; and (iii) all work mileage is paid for in accordance with the allowances in place, as amended from time to time.
So, what do we need from you?
- A driving licence.
- A road worthy vehicle is essential for the role.
Further details:
The Bailiff Manager role in HMCTS currently attracts a £1,000 per annum allowance. This allowance is role specific, non-pensionable and can be reviewed, removed and/or changed at any time without notice and would end when moving to a different role.
This is an operational role that is customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public.
Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJs Flexible Working policy.
Applications for part-time working would be considered however due to the nature of the role the minimum hours would be 30 hours per week.
Skilled Worker Visa
This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas in accordance with the current immigration rules.
From 22 July 2025, the Government introduced changes to the Skilled Worker visa route. The department cannot consider sponsoring you for this role unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa prior to the 22 July 2025 changes. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously, please raise this during your vetting checks and eligibility will be assessed in accordance with the immigration rules and transitional provisions in place.
If you are applying for this role and you have not held a Skilled Worker visa prior to the 22 July 2025 changes, you will need to consider your options for obtaining and/or maintaining your right to work in the UK in light of these changes. Successful applicants must ensure they have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and in the United Kingdom.

Lead Criterion
A sift based on the lead behaviour (Leadership) may be held if a large number of applications are received.
Location
This post will be based at Nottingham County Court, 60 Canal Street, Nottingham, NG1 7EJ. The role will require travel across the Nottinghamshire Area on a regular basis. Post holder may also be occasionally required in the wider East Midlands region.
