About Us

Alexander Young is a growing accountancy practice providing accountancy, tax, VAT and advisory services to owner-managed businesses and individuals.

Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Client Portfolio Manager to take responsibility for a portfolio of clients and become a key member of our team.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Client Portfolio Manager to oversee and manage a portfolio of accountancy clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining strong client relationships, managing compliance work, providing accounting and tax advice, and ensuring all client matters are dealt with accurately and efficiently.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountancy practice professional to play a key role in the continued growth and development of the firm.

Key Responsibilities

· Managing a portfolio of limited company, sole trader and partnership clients.

· Acting as the primary point of contact for clients and maintaining strong professional relationships.

· Preparation and review of statutory accounts.

· Preparation and review of corporation tax returns.

· Preparation and submission of self-assessment tax returns.

· Advising clients on accounting, tax and business matters.

· Managing client deadlines and workflow to ensure all filing obligations are met.

· Reviewing work prepared by junior team members.

· Training, mentoring and supporting junior staff.

· Identifying tax planning and advisory opportunities for clients.

· Liaising directly with HMRC and Companies House.

· Dealing with ad hoc HMRC matters, including responding to client correspondence, resolving PAYE, VAT and corporation tax queries, and liaising directly with HMRC on behalf of clients.

· Monitoring client records for discrepancies and ensuring corrective action is taken promptly.

· Preparing management accounts and financial information where required.

· Attending client meetings and assisting with practice development initiatives.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

· Be ACA or ACCA qualified.

· Have a minimum of 5 years’ recent experience working within a UK accountancy practice.

· Have experience managing a portfolio of clients.

· Be capable of preparing and reviewing statutory accounts with minimal supervision.

· Be capable of preparing and reviewing corporation tax returns without supervision.

· Be capable of preparing and submitting self-assessment tax returns, including those involving dividends, rental properties and capital gains.

· Have experience reviewing work prepared by junior staff.

· Have strong working knowledge of IRIS Accountancy Suite.

· Have strong working knowledge of Xero.

· Have excellent knowledge of UK accounting and tax principles.

· Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Be highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

· Be able to work independently and take ownership of client relationships.

Desirable Experience

· QuickBooks and SAGE experience.

· Experience dealing with HMRC enquiries and investigations.

· Experience supervising and developing junior team members.

· Experience preparing management accounts.
