We have a vacancy for an Evidential Property Clerk within our Finance and Business Directorate. The purpose of the role is to safely receive, store and dispose of evidential and found property items held by Avon and Somerset Police. You will work in conjunction with the officer managing the case for it to be returned to the rightful owner or disposed of in line with Force procedural guidance and policy.

Every person that works for us, is in some way supporting and serving the community we represent. Each day brings you new challenges and decision making and your learning and development will be ongoing within the department. This is a role that will give you the opportunity to support investigators in bringing offenders to justice and keeping our communities safe.

Your main responsibilities will be:
Receiving and safely storing all items of seized or evidential property, including illicit or controlled drugs, ballistic items, cash and associated material.
Accurately recording details on relevant database systems.
Providing advice, guidance and operational support via phone, email and face to face, in relation to the seizure and retention of evidence.
Producing transaction reports for investigating departments and teams.
Assisting in the decision making process regarding the retention and disposal of property.
Working across all Force property stores or transporting goods between locations within the Force area during duty time and using force vehicles, if required by the department for business reasons.

Skills and experience required:
Good customer services skills, dealing with a variety of people both face to face and over the phone.
Experience of managing difficult conversations where required
Proven skills in accuracy and attention to detail with experience of working within a confidential environment with an understanding of data protection principles.
Computer literacy skills, both Microsoft and bespoke packages and databases.
Experience of keeping and monitoring records.
An awareness of manual handling and health and safety when lifting moving items, however full training will be given.

Additional Information:
Please note the post is available from February 2027.

Shortlisting will commence on 30th September.

Interviews will be held in person, at Portishead Headquarters, week commencing 12th October.

Please note that a 6 month reserve bank will be held for future opportunities within Evidential Property. This may include permanent vacancies, as well as other contract types and locations.
