Full job description

We are seeking a permanent role as Research Scientist with synthetic chemistry experience to join an exciting, growing R&D company in the tissue regeneration and medical device sector. The company is developing innovative technologies for hard tissue repair and regeneration, with an emphasis in dental applications with real patient impact.

Your Role

You will be responsible for developing and improving material formulations. This role involves leading R&D projects, helping to optimize current and develop new technologies, and supporting technical and clinical teams. You will work with a team of clinicians, scientists, and engineers in a fast-paced environment developing new technologies and disruptive products.

The scope of activity includes providing chemistry and technical expertise on biomaterials for dental applications, designing and conducting experimental work, interpreting results, implementing creative actions, and trouble-shooting. Specific activities may include:

  • Providing support and advice in biomaterial formulations, design, and development.
  • Providing chemistry expertise in polymeric materials, cross-linking systems, peptide- and protein-based materials, supramolecular chemistry, and biomineralization.
  • Carrying out laboratory work related to different R&D projects.
  • Designing and executing experiments to evaluate product performance, safety, and efficacy.
  • Interpreting results, drawing conclusions, and presenting findings accurately.
  • Working closely with scientists, engineers, and clinicians to develop creative solutions to problems and improve product performance.
  • Resolving of routine work problems independently.
  • Creating technical documentation which conforms to all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring adherence to all procedures and processes set up within the Quality System.
  • Complying with Health and Safety procedures affecting self and others.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, & Experience

  • A PhD degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Chemistry-related field, or Masters level with significant experience.
  • Experience in synthetic chemistry and working with polymers, proteins, peptides, hydrogels.
  • Experience working with polymer and protein modification and cross-linking systems.
  • Understanding of surface chemistry and biomineralization.
  • Experience working in a laboratory and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Motivated to learn and ability to plan/organize work activities and meet deadlines.
  • Creativity and proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Being cooperative and a team player is essential in this role.
  • Ability to follow correct procedures, quality standards, and health and safety regulations.

Pay: £40,000.00-£46,000.00 per year
