Full job description

Bermuda Electric Light Company ("BELCO") is seeking a Specialist Cable Jointer to join our Transmission & Distribution department. The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out duties that encompass a wide range of transmission & distribution work at voltages up to and including 34.5kV.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Perform the installation, termination and jointing of Power Utility equipment inclusive of switchgear, transformers, cables and associated equipment.

· The post holder conducts periodic inspection, troubleshooting (fault location), installation and repair work on cables.

· The post holder acts as a leader by allocating work to craftspeople and by guiding the team. The individual offers guidance and on-the-job training to those of lower grades and must be able to work with minimal supervision.

· Perform all activities in adherence to BELCO’s Operational Safety Rules, Safe Work Practices Manual and all relevant Company Policies, Procedures and Practices.

Education and Experience

· High School Leaving Certificate or equivalent

· Technical Qualification such as BTEC, NVQ Level 4, City and Guilds (Part I), ONC or the equivalent in an appropriate discipline with a minimum of four (4) years Apprenticeship training or equivalent work experience

· In-depth knowledge of cable jointing and termination key practices and standards up to 34,500 volts on various cable systems and technologies.

· Completion of all AFA Job Cards up to and including Grade 1, Training Worker Standard (G1S TWS) or equivalent experience.

· Working knowledge of Government & BELCO’s Health & Safety policies and procedures

· First-Aid Certificate

· Achieve and operate at the level of Senior Authorized Person (SAP) defined under BELCO’s Operational Safety Rules.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

· Ability to make technical decisions to rectify problems

· Good verbal & written communication skills at a technical level with co-workers and supervisors

· Good customer service skills (being personable in dealing with customers)

· Excellent physical condition (e.g., ability to climb and work in confined spaces)

· Excellent observational skills

· Good leadership

· Ability to interpret and follow equipment manuals

· Proven abilities in on-the-job training, assessment, and coaching one-on-one
