Job summary
The Pensions Administration Consulting team advises a wide range of public service clients, supporting some of the largest pension schemes in the UK. In this role you will provide high-quality, proactive, solution-focused advice on scheme administration, management, and governance, including:
- Ensuring that benefit calculations and payments are accurate
- Implementing and communicating benefit changes arising from legal judgments
- Improving the quality and completeness of member data
- Preparing for the launch of pensions dashboards
You will also use your detailed knowledge of pensions administration to support actuarial colleagues, operating as a subject matter expert on administration and scheme governance issues, and identifying opportunities to add value and support clients.

Job description
- Providing high quality pensions administration and scheme governance advice to the sponsor and administrators of Public Service Pension Schemes.
- Assisting with development of technical client content relating to pensions administration and scheme governance.
- Assisting senior colleagues with business development activities including developing and maintaining client relationships (new and existing) and profile-raising activities (including webinars, conference attendance, networking opportunities, writing blogs and other promotional materials).
- To support the growth and development of the PAC team with actions such as (but not limited to):
- Horizon scanning
- Promoting opportunities for business growth in the pensions admin space.
- Identify areas for improvement and help to drive improvements through the team and with our clients.
- Leading on areas of product development.
- Engaging with and encouraging other team members to support your own and their development.
- Identifying and encouraging team development through L & D opportunities.
- Able to work independently to deliver work within broad direction from a senior colleague.
Representing GAD and the PAC team at client meetings with or without senior support.
Take ownership for workstreams and workstrands which involves (but is not limited to):
- Delivering of appropriate high-quality advice and support to clients (oral and written) to agreed timescales and within budget
- Ensuring that individual and client work undertaken is appropriately scoped, developed and project managed.
- Working directly with the client and the team to ensure that work is planned with agreed and realistic timescales and delivered efficiently and on time.
- Leading other team members and taking responsibility to ensure that deadlines are being adhered to.
- Proactively engaging with colleagues of all levels (junior and senior) to support collaborative working and reporting on project progress
- Ensuring that senior colleagues are kept informed of workstream progress and issues are escalated to them in a timely manner where appropriate to do so
- Completing work at a high level of efficiency and accuracy and checking/reviewing the work of junior colleagues and peers.
Complying with all relevant guidance, regulations, and best practice in pensions administration.
Adapting to changing client needs and balancing conflicting priorities.
Complying with GAD peer review procedures.
Agile working within the team and within other GAD teams from time to time during key periods to deliver work.
Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of pensions, pensions scheme governance and pensions administration issues, particularly public service pensions, and distilling this information to clients and colleagues.

Person specification
- Key external stakeholders include: PSPS clients and potential clients, scheme administrators, and members of the wider pensions industry.
- Key internal stakeholders include: members of the PAC team, members of wider GAD teams.
This role will involve significant levels of interaction with pension scheme administrators and sponsoring departments. As such, strong communication and collaboration skills are required.

- Grow and share their knowledge of pension scheme administration with the team, our clients, and other stakeholders.
- Liaise with relevant contacts within the PAC team and in other teams to share experiences, develop common approaches and ensure consistency where appropriate to do so.

Proactively develop other members of the team as part of business as usual and potentially have line management responsibilities.
