Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Practice Manager to join our team at Crickhowell Group Practice. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with supervisory experience and a strong background in management, financial oversight, and human resources. The purpose of this position is to provide leadership, strategic vision and management skills to guide and develop the Practice to meet existing and future quality and business needs, including the delivery of high-quality patient care services. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate robust leadership and communication skills, be well organised and highly motivated.
You will be directly supported by a Deputy Practice Manager, Data/IT Manager and Dispensary Manager. The job requires the ability to balance the need for overall strategic leadership with the requirement to ensure that day-to-day operational challenges are dealt with quickly and effectively. This will entail appropriate delegation of responsibility to members of the management team, multidisciplinary team, and other members of staff, whilst retaining overall accountability. The post-holder will be the senior non-clinical figure within the Practice.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Hours: 37 hours per week.
Reports to: GP Partners.
Salary: £49,387.00 to £52,200.00 (depending on experience).
Pension: NHS or NEST pension scheme available.
Contract type – Permanent.
Overview of the Organisation
Crickhowell Group Practice is a General Practice based in Crickhowell, Powys. We are a rural practice located within the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. We are six miles from the vibrant town of Abergavenny, 13 miles from Brecon and only 25 miles from Cardiff. We enjoy good local schools and other amenities.
We provide a service to Crickhowell, Llangatock. Llangenney and Gilwern and its surrounding villages.
The Practice has 7 Doctors (5 GP Partners and 2 Salaried GPs) and 4 Nursing staff (FTE). We also provide District Nursing, Community Physiotherapy, Health Visitor, and Community Mental Health via NHS staff. We are a dispensing practice.
Crickhowell Group Practice is a very high achieving practice under the Quality Assurance and Improvement Framework, QAIF, and consistently receives high Patient Satisfaction ratings. We are a very busy centre and strive to ensure that our patients are cared for to the highest standards.

Job Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Provide leadership to practice teams, including reception, administrative and management staff.
- Provide leadership during service change, transformation and NHS policy developments.
- Lead development and delivery of the Practice Business Plan and long-term sustainability strategy.

- Support staff development, performance management and wellbeing.
Practice Operations
- Oversee the efficient running of daily practice operations.
- Ensure high standards of patient experience and service delivery.
- Manage patient complaints process and policy.
Human Resources
- Lead workforce strategy, including succession planning and organisational development.
- Lead recruitment, induction, appraisal and training processes.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation and best practice.
- Manage HR issues appropriately, including absence and disciplinary matters.
Finance and Contractual Management
- Oversee practice finances, budgeting and financial reporting.
- Manage claims, income streams and expenditure.
- Support delivery of GMS contract requirements and enhanced services.
Governance and Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with statutory, contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain oversight of governance frameworks, risk management, and business continuity planning.
External Relationships
- Act as a key liaison with the Health Board, Red Kite Healthcare Solutions and South Powys GP Collaborative.
- Maintain effective working relationships with hosted community healthcare providers.
- Represent the practice appropriately at meetings and external forums.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Education
- GCSE including English and Mathematics (Essential).
- A level or equivalent (Essential).
- Good standard of education with excellent literary and numeracy skills (Essential).
- Diploma in Primary Care Management or equivalent (Desirable).
- Educated to degree level or equivalent (healthcare, management, business or leadership an advantage) (Desirable).
- Masters level of education or equivalent in healthcare or business-related subject (Desirable).
- Formal Finance, Business, Management, Leadership or HR qualification (Desirable).
Experience
- Experience of working with contracts, staff, finances, and premises management (Essential).
- Demonstrable leadership skills and experience (Essential).
- Experience of managing and working with accounting procedures including budget and cash flow forecasting (Essential).
- Practical experience of HR processes and procedures including line management, appraisal, staff development, workforce planning and disciplinary processes (Essential).
