Job Description: Female Support Worker

Role Description

We currently have a great opportunity for a dedicated Female Support worker for 36 hours Waking Nights to work with an individual who has autism and complex mental health support needs in the Helston area. The individual lives on their own and we provide wrap around support that covers all aspects of their life throughout the day and night.

As a Waking Night Support Worker you will ensure that the individual feels safe and comfortable overnight so that they are able to have a good night’s sleep and are able to wake the next day feeling ready for activities they have planned.

To be part of their team, they are looking for the following qualities from a team member:

  • Someone who is able to provide a high level of support during the good times and difficult periods our individual faces in their daily life.
  • A good understanding of Autism or have experience working with Autistic individuals, and an understanding that being autistic is an important part of who they are.
  • A good understanding of Mental Health difficulties and how this can have an impact on daily living or have working experience in a mental health setting.
  • A good understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and co-regulation strategies.
  • Someone who can be a positive advocate for them.
  • Consistency – do what you say you will, and if you can’t to explain why.
  • Someone who will support their independence, allowing them to learn from their mistakes and support their growth.
  • Someone who works as part of the team who deliver amazing person-centred care.
  • Someone who is calm on the difficult days.
  • Someone who has a fun and kind personality who will go on adventures with them but also be able to sit in comfortable silence on quieter days.
  • Someone who is genuine and is able to support relationship building.
  • Someone who is patient, understanding the needs of building a safe and trusting relationship with the individual at their own pace.
  • Someone who is empathic and resilient, with a commitment to supporting individuals with complex needs without judgement.
  • Someone who is able to think outside the box, able to think of solutions to problems the individual may face in a way that meets their needs.
  • Someone who is aware of the impact trauma has on the individual and practices trauma informed care.
  • Someone who is able to have a laugh and a joke but have set standards and boundaries.
