Location: Stretton Shires School, Stretton, Rutland, LE15 7GT
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday–Friday | 8:30am – 4:30pm
Salary: £24,132.00 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

About the Role
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with complex needs to access the world around them?
At Stretton Shires School, we're looking for a dedicated and skilled Multi-Sensory Intervenor (Qualified) to join our specialist team supporting pupils with Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI/Deaf blindness). This is a unique and highly rewarding opportunity to make a life-changing difference by helping pupils develop communication, confidence, independence and meaningful connections with the world around them.
Working alongside teachers, therapists, families and specialist professionals, you'll play a vital role in enabling pupils to access learning, build relationships and achieve their full potential both in school and within the wider community.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide specialist one-to-one and small group support for pupils with multi-sensory impairment and complex communication needs.
- Facilitate communication using a range of approaches including tactile signing, BSL, objects of reference, communication aids and assistive technology.
- Support pupils to access learning, social opportunities, educational visits and community experiences.
- Promote independence, mobility, self-advocacy, emotional wellbeing and life skills.
- Adapt learning materials and resources to ensure full accessibility for pupils with sensory impairments.
- Monitor progress, maintain accurate records and contribute to EHCP reviews and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Support the use and maintenance of specialist hearing, vision and communication equipment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families and external professionals to deliver outstanding outcomes.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about supporting children and young people with sensory impairments to thrive.
- Has experience working with pupils with Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI/deaf blindness) and complex communication needs.
- Can confidently use a range of communication approaches, including BSL, tactile communication or assistive technologies.
- Promotes independence, inclusion and person-centred practice in everything they do.
- Has excellent observation, recording and communication skills.
- Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Is patient, resilient, adaptable and committed to achieving the very best outcomes for pupils.
- Holds a recognised NatSIP Multi-Sensory Intervenor Qualification (or equivalent) and is committed to ongoing professional development.
- Full UK Driving Licence
Essential Requirements
- NatSIP Multi-Sensory Intervenor Qualification (or recognised equivalent).
- GCSE English and Maths Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
- Experience supporting children or young people with MSI/deaf blindness and SEND.
- Strong understanding of the impact of combined vision and hearing impairment on learning and development.
Desirable
- British Sign Language (BSL) qualification.
- Training in deafblind communication approaches.
- Knowledge of assistive technology, orientation and mobility principles.
- Experience within specialist education, residential care or community settings.
