Full job description

Groundskeeper / Gardener

We are looking for a practical and experienced Groundskeeper / Gardener to join the gardens and grounds team on a private country estate.

The role will report directly to the Head of Gardens & Grounds, working alongside other members of the department to maintain the estate’s gardens, lawns, grounds and wider landscape to a consistently high standard.

Key responsibilities

- General garden and grounds maintenance

- Mowing, strimming and grass care

- Hedge, shrub and seasonal maintenance

- Ground-based chainsaw work

- Safe use of small tractors, mowers and other grounds machinery

- Spraying and application of approved treatments, where appropriately qualified

- General estate grounds work and seasonal tasks

- Care and basic daily maintenance of tools and machinery

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who:

- Has practical experience in professional gardening, groundskeeping or estate maintenance

- Is confident operating small tractors and grounds machinery

- Can work independently while following daily, weekly and seasonal work plans set by the Head of Gardens & Grounds

- Communicates progress, issues and practical feedback clearly to the Head of Department

- Works well as part of a wider team

- Is reliable, organised and takes pride in maintaining high standards

- Understands safe working practices and the importance of looking after machinery and equipment

Relevant qualifications or tickets in areas such as chainsaw use, spraying and machinery operation would be advantageous.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys varied outdoor work and wants to be part of a well-organised estate gardens and grounds team.

Pay: £31,000.00 per year
