Assistant Headteacher - SEND School - Permanent

South East London
Inner London pay scales L8-12
September 2026

Do you have experience as a AHT within a specialist setting?

We are seeking an experienced and impactful SEND leader to join a specialist setting on a permanent basis from September. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a newly appointed Headteacher with extensive SEND expertise, who is driving a clear vision for the school's future.

As the school evolves to meet the needs of an increasingly complex pupil cohort, you will play a key role in shaping and developing high-quality provision, ensuring that every learner receives the support and opportunities they need to thrive. This role would suit a strategic and resilient leader with a strong track record in SEND, who is passionate about inclusive education and committed to raising outcomes for children and young people with additional needs.

This specialist school supports pupils from early years through to primary age with a diagnosis of autism. The setting caters for children with severe and complex learning needs, including social communication differences. Many pupils also experience speech, language, and additional learning difficulties.

A range of structured approaches are used to support communication and learning, including visual communication systems and highly structured teaching methods embedded throughout the school day and curriculum.

The school is based in a well-connected urban area that has recently seen significant regeneration, with improved local amenities, housing, and leisure facilities.

There are approximately 75 pupils on roll, drawn from the local area and surrounding communities. Class sizes are small and tailored to meet individual needs, typically with no more than seven pupils per class.

The school was rated “Good” in its most recent inspection, with recognition given to pupils’ strong progress, positive personal development, effective teaching, and strong leadership. Continued improvement since the previous inspection was also noted.

At Parker Smith Inclusion, we partner with a wide range of schools – from SEND schools and mainstream settings to Alternative Provisions (APs) and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). There is a growing demand for enthusiastic, compassionate senior leaders like you to make a real impact on young lives.
