Safe Start School Tameside is an Independent SEN provision for students aged 11-19 with a range of additional needs, including SEND, SEMH and EHCP requirements. The wellbeing, progress and achievement of every child are at the heart of everything we do. We believe this is best achieved through strong partnerships between students, families, school staff and external professionals.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible and dedicated SEN Teacher & Cover Supervisor to join our team. This role combines teaching responsibilities with the ability to provide high-quality classroom cover across the school when required, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining a positive learning environment for all students.

We welcome applications from qualified teachers with experience in SEN and SEMH settings, as well as teachers from a Primary Education background who are interested in working within a Secondary-age provision. Experience of delivering Functional Skills and GCSE English and Maths is desirable, particularly for our KS4 students.

All of our students have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require a nurturing, personalised approach to learning. Classes are small, with typically no more than five students, supported by a Teaching Assistant. Staff work closely with pupils to deliver individualised learning programmes and support students' academic, social and emotional development.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

A good understanding of the Independent School Standards, particularly Part 2.

The ability to teach and engage students across KS3 and KS4.

The flexibility and confidence to provide classroom cover across a range of subjects when required.

The ability to set realistic and challenging targets for pupils.

Strong organisational and time management skills.

The ability to priorities tasks and manage competing demands.

The ability to establish positive relationships whilst maintaining high expectations for behavior, attendance and achievement.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

A commitment to inclusive practice and meeting the diverse needs of learners with SEND and SEMH needs.

Experience

Essential:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience of delivering the National Curriculum.
• Experience of working with pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience of assessment, recording, monitoring and reporting pupil progress.
• Experience of planning, organising and delivering engaging lessons.
• Experience managing classroom behaviour positively and effectively.

Desirable:

• Experience delivering Functional Skills and GCSE English and/or Maths.
• Experience working within an Independent School or Alternative Provision setting.
• Experience providing classroom cover or supervising lessons across multiple subject areas.
