This friendly and supportive primary school is committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential. The school has a strong focus on providing high quality support for pupils with additional needs, ensuring they are able to access learning, build confidence, and thrive both academically and socially.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated one to one support for a child with additional educational needs within the classroom. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will help the pupil access the curriculum, encourage independence, and support their social, emotional, and academic development throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering personalised learning activities that meet the child's individual needs.
  • Adapt learning resources and classroom activities to promote engagement and accessibility.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence, communication, and social interaction.
  • Support the child's emotional wellbeing and help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, carers, and external professionals to support the child's progress and development.
  • Monitor and record progress, providing feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate

We welcome applications from enthusiastic, caring, and motivated individuals who are passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

  • Graduates and final year university students from all subject areas are encouraged to apply.
  • Previous experience working with children or individuals with Special Educational Needs is desirable but not essential.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Reliable, professional, and committed to helping every child achieve their potential.

What the School Offers

  • A welcoming and supportive mainstream primary school environment.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Valuable hands on experience supporting a child on a one to one basis.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to a child's educational journey and personal development.
  • Potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.

If you are passionate about supporting children with additional needs and are looking to develop your experience within an inclusive primary school setting, this is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated and supportive school community in Cannock, Staffordshire.
