Full job description

Dental Receptionist – Private Dental Practice, Central London

We are looking for an exceptional Dental Receptionist to join our established private dental practice in London’s West End.

For us, character matters as much as experience. We are looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking, warm with patients and takes genuine pride in doing their job well. You should be the sort of person who notices what needs doing, takes responsibility and enjoys being part of a team.

Our practice looks after a long-established general and family dental patient base alongside specialist referral dentistry. We place a strong emphasis on personal service, clinical excellence and making every patient feel genuinely looked after.

The role

You will be an important part of the day-to-day running of the practice and the first point of contact for many of our patients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Welcoming patients warmly and professionally.
  • Managing appointments and keeping the clinical diary running efficiently.
  • Handling telephone, email and face-to-face patient enquiries.
  • Taking payments, preparing invoices and dealing confidently with patient accounts.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Following up appointments, treatment plans and patient enquiries.
  • Communicating closely with dentists, hygienists and nurses and referring dentists.
  • Helping the wider team when needed and taking ownership of problems rather than simply passing them on.
  • Maintaining excellent standards of confidentiality, organisation and professionalism.

We use Dentally as our practice management system.

The person we are looking for

Previous dental reception experience is important, but we are particularly interested in finding someone with the right attitude and work ethic.

You will ideally have:

  • At least two years' experience working in dental reception or a comparable dental administrative role.
  • A stable employment history and good references.
  • Experience using Dentally, although we will consider an excellent candidate with experience of another dental practice management system.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • A naturally warm and confident manner with patients.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to remain calm and effective when the practice is busy.
  • Confidence discussing fees, taking payments and dealing with patient accounts.
  • Good judgement and the ability to use your initiative.
  • Reliability, punctuality and a strong sense of personal responsibility.
  • A genuine team mentality — someone willing to help colleagues rather than saying, “that's not my job”.

This is a hands-on role in a busy private practice, so it will suit someone who enjoys responsibility, likes getting things done and takes satisfaction from providing excellent service.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • A friendly and professional working environment.
  • A supportive team where good work is recognised and appreciated.
  • Training and opportunities to develop within the practice.
  • A modern private practice with a strong focus on quality and patient care.

How to apply

Please send us your CV together with a short introduction.

To help us get to know you, please also tell us in a few sentences: What do you think makes an exceptional dental receptionist?

We are much more interested in a thoughtful, genuine answer than a long cover letter.

We look forward to hearing from you.
