An exciting opportunity has arisen for a second Ward Manager to join Northwood Hospital as we continue our ambitious program of growth and expansion.

Northwood Hospital is a leading private surgical facility specialising in plastic and reconstructive surgery. We are entering an exciting new phase of development, with plans to expand our surgical services to include general surgery, orthopaedics, and ophthalmology.

Job Purpose

As Ward Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the inpatient ward and day case suite. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centred care with a strong focus on clinical excellence within a plastic and cosmetic surgical setting. You will lead, develop and inspire a multidisciplinary nursing and support team, foster strong collaborative relationships with consultant surgeons, and drive continuous quality improvement. This is a key role combining expert clinical knowledge, strong leadership capability, and the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships in a fast-paced private hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Excellence

Provide expert clinical knowledge and skills within plastic and cosmetic surgery; act as a professional role model for clinical staff at all levels

Assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate evidence-based programmes of care to the highest standard

Ensure accurate, timely documentation and meticulous record-keeping in accordance with CQC requirements and professional standards

Monitor patients closely and promptly report clinical changes to the relevant surgeon, instigating appropriate remedial action

Team Leadership & Development

Take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area, setting high standards and fostering a culture of excellence

Lead, mentor, and develop nursing and support staff; actively promote and develop nursing practice and professional competence

Participate in recruitment, selection, appraisal, professional development and retention of team members

Be able to motivate others and create an environment where team members feel valued, supported and empowered to deliver excellent care

Surgeon & Stakeholder Relations

Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with consultant surgeons and senior clinicians

Communicate effectively and professionally with consultants regarding patient care, concerns and clinical decisions

Support consultants in maintaining their standards and liaison with external bodies as required

Policy, Audit & Governance

Develop, implement and review policies and protocols within the ward; ensure clinical governance is embedded into practice

Actively participate in auditing practice, data analysis and quality improvement initiatives to drive continuous enhancement

Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, Health & Safety, and professional standards

Person Specification — Essential

Extensive experience of acting as a ward manager with proven ability to lead and motivate nursing and support staff at all levels

Strong clinical background in surgical and perioperative nursing care

Demonstrable experience working within plastic and/or cosmetic surgery nursing

Knowledge of cosmetic and aesthetic nursing care, patient expectations and outcomes in a private setting

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to interact professionally with surgeons and senior clinicians

Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with ability to manage competing priorities

Committed to clinical excellence, evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement

Experience in a CQC registered environment

Proficient in the use of IT systems and software, with the ability to work accurately, efficiently, and adapt to new technologies

Person Specification — Desirable

Prior experience of working in a private hospital setting

Formal management or leadership qualification (e.g. ILM, MBA)

Experience with quality improvement or audit projects

Person Specification — Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN or RGN) with current UK professional registration

Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)

Nursing management or leadership qualification
