Syre & North Loch Naver Estates are adjoining remote, upland, sporting estates located in Strathnaver, Sutherland. They include three of six rotating beats on the renowned River Naver which is one of the very best and private salmon rivers in the country. Extending to some 23,000 acres in total, with red deer stalking, numerous hill lochs, woodcock shooting and the impressive Syre Lodge at its heart, the Estates offer a unique sporting experience in stunning, unspoilt countryside.

We are looking to recruit a Housekeeper.

An experienced hands-on Housekeeper to run Syre Lodge (a large 10 bedroom property) and Dalvina Lodge, a self catering property. Whilst this is a full-time role you will be expected to work longer hours during the fishing season (usually March to September) and less hours out of season. The candidate will be dealing directly with guests and managing all aspects of their stay. You will also be required to oversee cooks and other seasonal staff. The position will include being responsible for organising maintenance and servicing of the property and all health and safety requirements. The candidate will be well organised, a team player and possess excellent communication skills.

The job requirements:

Ø To be responsible for the smooth day to day running of Syre Lodge and Dalvina

Ø to undertake all housekeeping duties including but not limited to cleaning, hoovering, polishing, changing beds, looking after lodge contents including silver and some antiques and very occasionally some cooking

Ø To manage and oversee seasonal domestic staff including an assistant housekeeper and cook and to arrange a works rota as required, including evening shift work

Ø To work closely with other members of staff

Ø To do laundry and ironing to a high standard

Ø To put out rubbish and ensure bins are collected as necessary

Ø To run errands as required and driving as necessary

Ø To liaise with guests before their stay, to ensure guests are made welcome and to make their stay at comfortable and as enjoyable as possible

Ø To make yourself available to owners and guests during their stay

Ø To be the main point of contact for guests and to meet and greet as required

Ø To shop as required and to ensure the Lodge is always adequately stocked

Ø To wait at table and to work in the kitchen as part of an evening shift programme

Ø To be responsible for implementing the health and safety policies and liaising with the Estate Office to ensure records are kept up to date and licensing requirements are met

Ø To arrange for annual services of fixtures including boiler, PAT testing, gas safety checks of appliances, water treatment systems, intruder alarms, fire alarms (biannual), fire extinguishers for both Syre Lodge and Dalvina Lodge

Ø To undertake regular legionella tests as required when Syre Lodge and Dalvina Lodge are unoccupied

Ø To carry out weekly checks on smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in both Syre Lodge and Dalvina Lodge and keep necessary records

Ø To liaise with contractors as and when required

Ø To ensure Syre Lodge, Dalvina and if required, other Estate properties are managed appropriately out of season, particularly during the winter months and to regularly check them

Ø To ensure the lodge is maintained to a high standard and to oversee any agreed maintenance works

Ø To oversee the security of Syre Lodge and other estate properties

Ø To manage and oversee the maintenance of Dalvina Lodge (which is cleaned by a separate cleaning company) to ensure it is kept in a clean and tidy condition

Ø To work closely with the Estate Owners and their Factor as required

Ø To act as a good ambassador for the Estate and to ensure that good and respectful relations continue to be maintained with the local community

Ø To ensure all Estate working policies are adhered to and are implemented

Ø Plus anything else that is reasonably required!

Ø You will be encouraged to take most of your holidays outside the fishing season

The required attributes:

Ø You will be an experienced Housekeeper with a with a good eye for detail

Ø You will be an excellent people person and a good communicator

Ø You will possess good administrative skills

Ø You will be approachable, presentable and you will have a positive outlook

Ø You will be 100% focused on the job in hand and you will be prepared to go the extra mile when required including working extras hours as necessary

Ø You will be a good team player and be able to work closely with other estate employees as well as enjoy working alone

You will be required:

Ø To possess a valid UK driving licence

Ø To be flexible in the hours you work which will including working weekends and doing some evening shifts during the season. Change over day during the season is a Sunday.

Ø You will be required to work six days a week during the season, sometimes working long hours. You will work fewer hours out of season, over the winter months.
