Full job description

Company and Role Overview

At C7 Surveyors, we specialise in expert witness services in housing condition and disrepair matters. Our expertise and commitment to clear, evidence-led advice set us apart as trusted professional advisers, who support our instructing clients with clarity, balance and careful reasoning.

Our reports are recognised for being concise, well-reasoned and evidence based, often assisting solicitors in resolving disputes efficiently. This reflects the rigorous approach we apply to our work, from structured evidence gathering through to careful drafting, and proofreading by our in-house operations team.

We are seeking an MRICS or FRICS Chartered Building Surveyor with at least three years of post-qualification experience to join our expert team. In this role, you will be supported in developing specialist expertise in housing condition and disrepair matters and expert witness practice.

The role involves inspecting residential properties and preparing expert witness reports in relation to housing condition and disrepair claims. If you have a background in residential surveying and building defect diagnosis, we will support your transition into this specialist field and help you develop into a respected expert.

Candidate Requirements

While we undertake assignments across England and South Wales, we are particularly seeking support in the Midlands, with additional work available for those willing to travel further.

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • MRICS or FRICS Chartered status with a minimum of three years post-qualification experience
  • Experience undertaking residential inspections and diagnosing building defects
  • Clear written communication and structured analytical thinking
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Experience relating to the following areas is advantageous but not essential:

  • Section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act
  • Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018
  • Section 4 of the Defective Premises Act

Earnings Potential and Working Pattern

Experts are engaged on a fixed fee basis per instruction. Surveyors who dedicate a full working week to C7 instructions typically generate around £2,200–£2,500 per week, depending on workload and experience.

Many of our sub-consultant experts choose to work with C7 alongside other professional commitments, undertaking inspections and report preparation for part of their week while continuing other surveying work.

Our in-house operations team assists with appointment scheduling, report preparation support and proofreading, enabling surveyors to focus on inspection, analysis and forming clear expert opinions, rather than administrative tasks.

Many of our experts complete their C7 work comfortably within standard working hours while maintaining the flexibility to integrate assignments alongside their other professional commitments.

What We Offer

At C7 Surveyors, we foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning and professional respect. We value our team members' insights and encourage constructive debate between experts on building pathology and legal interpretation.

We offer:

  • Opportunity to join our team as an independent sub-consultant expert
  • Competitive sub-consultancy rates
  • Flexible workload tailored to your availability
  • Work from home between inspections
  • Ongoing professional development and support in housing condition and expert witness work
  • Initial shadowing of an experienced surveyor to develop the necessary skills
  • Comprehensive administrative support from our in-house team

Professional Profile We Are Seeking

Our experts take pride in producing reports that are clear, proportionate and rarely require follow-up clarification from instructing solicitors.

Surveyors who enjoy analytical problem solving, disciplined report writing and professional debate with fellow experts tend to thrive in this environment.

Successful experts at C7 Surveyors typically demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Careful and methodical observation of building defects
  • Clear and concise written communication
  • The ability to form balanced professional opinions based on evidence
  • Professional humility and openness to technical discussion
  • Comfort working within a structured process designed to produce clear and defensible reports
  • Excellent time management and deadline adherence

Join Us

Join C7 Surveyors and develop your career as a Chartered Building Surveyor and Expert Witness within a supportive and professional team.

In this role you will contribute to providing clear and balanced expert advice in housing condition and disrepair matters, helping to support fair and well-reasoned outcomes in residential property disputes.

Pay: £750.00-£1,000.00 per day
