Role Summary

The Scrub Nurse/ Practitioner will play a central role in delivering safe, efficient and high-quality perioperative care within Hale Private Clinic’s theatres. Working primarily across cosmetic and plastic surgery, the post-holder will also support procedures within pain management, gynaecology, urology, dermatology, orthopaedic minor procedures, and other visiting consultant-led specialties.

You will ensure compliance with CQC standards, uphold infection prevention and control requirements, maintain surgical safety, and work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, ODPs and wider clinical teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties

  • Act as the scrub practitioner for a range of cosmetic/plastic procedures (breast, body, facial, liposuction, dermal surgery, etc.).
  • Scrub for additional specialties including:
  • Pain management (RF ablation, nerve blocks, spinal injections)
  • Gynaecology (hysteroscopy, minor gynae procedures)
  • Urology (minor procedures, cystoscopies)
  • Minor orthopaedics (foot/hand procedures, injections, arthroscopic assistance)
  • Dermatology / minor ops
  • Prepare, check and manage all instruments, consumables, implants and equipment required for each procedure.
  • Assist the surgical team intraoperatively, maintaining strict aseptic technique at all times.
  • Participate in patient check-in, WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and 6Cs of perioperative care.
  • Support the circulating practitioner role when required.
  • Ensure safe handling of surgical specimens and documentation.

Governance & Compliance

  • Adhere to all Hale Private Clinic policies, including Infection Prevention & Control, Medicines Management, PPE, Waste Management and Clinical Governance.
  • Participate in audits:
  • Surgical safety
  • Theatre cleanliness
  • Equipment checks
  • Stock control
  • Maintain accurate theatre documentation in line with CQC and company standards.
  • Report incidents, near misses and risks via the correct reporting pathways (e.g., Radar Healthcare).

Equipment & Environment

  • Ensure daily, weekly and monthly checks of theatre equipment, including diathermy, suction, autoclaves, lighting, trolleys and emergency equipment.
  • Maintain safe stock levels and liaise with the Theatre Manager for ordering.
  • Assist with the setting up and turning over of theatres between cases.
  • Ensure safe handling of sharps and hazardous materials.

Professional Standards

  • Maintain current NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Work within relevant professional standards and CQC Fundamental Standards of Care.
  • Participate in ongoing training and CPD.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality, dignity and privacy at all times.
  • Act as a positive role model for junior staff and visitors.

Skills & Experience RequiredEssential

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Previous scrub experience within theatres.
  • Strong understanding of sterile fields, instrumentation and surgical safety.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and adapt to different specialties.
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of patient care.

Desirable

  • Experience in cosmetic or plastic surgery.
  • Previous private healthcare experience.
  • Experience supporting pain management, gynaecology or minor orthopaedic cases.
  • Immediate Life Support (ILS).
  • Mentor/Assessor qualification.
