Full job description

Join one of London's leading scaffolding and temporary works specialists.

GKR Scaffolding is looking for ambitious and motivated graduates to join our Design Engineering Team. This is a unique opportunity to develop specialist expertise in Temporary Works Engineering – a highly sought-after discipline within the construction industry.

Based at our Tower Bridge office, you will work on complex and iconic projects across London and the South East. GKR has successfully delivered scaffolding and temporary works solutions for major projects including Battersea Power Station, 22 Bishopsgate, the Royal Albert Hall and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Unlike many traditional consultancies, our in-house design team is involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from pre-construction and tender stage through to delivery and adaptations on site. Working closely with our operations teams and clients, you will gain valuable hands-on experience and play an integral role in delivering innovative engineering solutions.

The Role

As a Graduate Design Engineer, you will:

  • Design scaffolding and temporary works structures in accordance with British and European standards, as well as UK construction and health and safety legislation.
  • Apply engineering principles to analyse structural behaviour, from simple hand calculations to advanced frame analysis.
  • Identify and eliminate hazards wherever possible during the design process and propose effective control measures to reduce risk.
  • Carry out site visits and surveys, gather and assess site information, and liaise with clients and construction professionals.
  • Attend design and project meetings and represent GKR in a professional manner.
  • Develop an understanding of the practical aspects of scaffold erection, use and dismantling, applying this knowledge to improve design solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with operations teams to ensure designs are practical, safe and efficient.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.

About You

We are looking for ambitious graduates who are eager to develop their careers in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.

You will have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive attitude and a genuine desire to learn and develop.
  • An interest in construction, temporary works and structural engineering.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work on some of London's most prestigious and technically challenging projects.
  • Structured training and ongoing professional development.
  • Mentoring and support from experienced engineers.
  • Exposure to both design and construction operations.
  • A collaborative and supportive working environment.
  • Clear opportunities for career progression within a growing and successful business.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

Diversity and Inclusion

GKR Scaffolding is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.

If you are looking to build a rewarding career in engineering and want to work on projects that shape the London skyline, we would love to hear from you.

Pay: From £28,000.00 per year
