Full job description

About Us
BioticNRG is a leading UK bioenergy and resource recovery business, transforming organic waste into renewable energy and sustainable products.

Through a growing portfolio of anaerobic digestion plants and resource recovery facilities, we are helping decarbonise transport, agriculture and energy whilst building a scalable platform for long-term growth.

We are an entrepreneurial organisation with deep engineering expertise operating in a dynamic sector at the heart of the energy transition. Our success is built on the quality of our people, our collaborative culture and a willingness to back talented individuals with responsibility early in their careers.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Commercial Analyst to join our growing Commercial divisions.

This is a broad, hands-on role that will sit across both our Innovation & Growth (I&G) and Trading & Portfolio Management (TPM) teams. Our I&G team is responsible for both M&A and the identification, analysis and implementation of innovative value-add projects, whilst TPM is responsible for asset-backed hedging activities aimed at optimising gross margin and managing risk across our energy portfolio.

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to energy markets, commercial strategy, project development, financial analysis and portfolio optimisation within a single role. Initially, the successful candidate will support both teams, by developing business cases for innovative asset enhancement opportunities, monitoring and analysing market developments and supporting hedging activities.

As the business continues to grow, there will be opportunity to specialise in either the trading and portfolio optimisation path, or a projects- and M&A-focused pathway.

This role would best suit an intellectually curious individual who enjoys solving problems, working with data and learning how commercial decisions are made in a growing bioenergy business.

Why Join BioticNRG?

This role offers direct exposure to senior decision-makers and a broad range of commercial activities from day one.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop a strong understanding of UK and European energy markets and renewable energy economics
  • Gain exposure to commodity hedging and portfolio optimisation
  • Support the evaluation and delivery of growth projects and strategic initiatives
  • Build financial modelling and commercial analysis skills
  • Work closely with experienced commercial, operational and finance professionals
  • Gain insight into the technical requirements and challenges at site level
  • Help shape the growth of a business playing a critical role in the energy transition space

For the right individual, this role can provide a pathway into commercial management, strategy, portfolio optimisation, corporate development or M&A.

What You’ll be Doing

Your responsibilities will evolve over time but are expected to include:

  • Commercial Analysis & Strategy
  • Building and maintaining financial models and business cases
  • Supporting the evaluation of operational improvement and growth opportunities
  • Conducting commercial and market research
  • Preparing analysis and recommendations for senior management
  • Supporting strategic planning and decision-making across the business
  • Projects & Growth
  • Assisting with the assessment and delivery of value-accretive projects
  • Supporting due diligence of new investments opportunities including greenfield developments and/or brownfield acquisitions
  • Working with operational, finance and technical teams to develop commercial solutions
  • Contributing to cross-functional initiatives that improve business performance
  • Energy Markets & Portfolio Optimisation
  • Monitoring UK gas, power and environmental certificate markets
  • Supporting the execution and administration of hedging transactions
  • Tracking portfolio positions and market exposures
  • Analysing market developments and identifying commercial opportunities
  • Assisting with the development of hedging and portfolio optimisation strategies

Who We’re Looking For

  • Intellectually curious and commercially minded
  • Analytical, with strong problem solving skills
  • Comfortable transforming complex, unstructured data into clear, commercial recommendations
  • Passionate about renewable energy, energy transition and markets
  • Proactive and willing to take ownership of tasks and projects
  • Able to communicate clearly and confidently with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a growing business where priorities can evolve

Essential

  • 1 – 3 years’ professional experience in energy, utilities, consulting, finance or another analytical environment
  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort with Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of intellectual curiosity, entrepreneurial in nature and humility
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a numerate field
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Experience in energy, renewables or utilities sectors
  • Exposure to financial modelling, commercial analysis and/or commodity markets
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Power BI
  • An interest in project development, M&A, strategy and/or trading

We offer:

  • £40,000–£50,000 basic salary, plus an annual bonus
