Part-Time Jewellery Studio Assistant / Maker
Morgan & French Personalised Jewellery | Biggleswade, SG18 0JS
Morgan & French is an established personalised jewellery brand specialising in meaningful, handcrafted jewellery made to celebrate the people, pets and moments that matter most.
We’re looking for a creative, practical and detail-oriented person to join our small production team at our jewellery studio in Biggleswade.
This is a hands-on, studio-based role rather than a customer-facing position. It would suit someone who enjoys making, has excellent attention to detail and would like to develop their practical jewellery skills as part of a friendly, experienced team.
Previous jewellery-making experience would be an advantage, but we’re equally interested in finding someone with strong practical ability, creativity and the aptitude to learn our techniques and processes.
The Role
The position will initially be two days per week, working two fixed days from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
There will be the opportunity for additional hours and days as the needs of the business grow, so this could particularly suit someone looking for a part-time role with the potential to increase their hours in the future.
Our jewellery is highly personalised, so much of what we make is produced individually for a particular customer. Accuracy, patience and care are extremely important.
You’ll receive training in our processes and techniques and, as your skills develop, become involved in different stages of producing, personalising, assembling and finishing our jewellery.
What You Could Be Doing
Your work may include:
● Hand stamping personalised jewellery
● Soldering
● Polishing and finishing silver jewellery
● Jewellery assembly
● Preparing and finishing components
● Producing personalised pieces to individual customer specifications
● Preparing jewellery for engraving and other processes
● Checking finished pieces for quality and accuracy
● Supporting the day-to-day running of the studio
● Helping with new products, samples and creative projects
● Learning additional jewellery-making and production techniques as the role develops
● Working closely with the rest of our small studio team to ensure orders are completed accurately and to a high standard
Because we’re a small team, everyone gets involved where needed. Some tasks are creative and varied, while others require patience and concentration to complete detailed or repetitive work consistently.
About You
You don’t need previous professional jewellery-making experience, as training will be provided.
Experience in jewellery making, silversmithing or another practical creative discipline would be useful, but practical ability, attention to detail and a willingness to learn are just as important to us.
This role would suit someone who:
● Is practical, creative and enjoys making things
● Has excellent attention to detail
● Has good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
● Has the patience and concentration needed for intricate work
● Takes pride in producing work to a consistently high standard
● Is comfortable following established processes and instructions
● Can work independently once trained
● Is adaptable and keen to learn new techniques
● Is reliable, conscientious and organised
● Enjoys working as part of a small team and is happy to help wherever needed
● Is comfortable carrying out both creative and repetitive tasks
● Has an interest in jewellery, craft, design or making
Jewellery-making qualifications or previous workshop experience are welcome but not essential if you can demonstrate strong practical or creative ability.
Hours & Pay
● Part-time: two days per week
● 9:00am–5:00pm
● Days to be agreed from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
● Regular fixed working days once agreed
● Opportunity for additional hours and days as the needs of the business grow
● Studio based in Biggleswade, SG18 0JS
● Pay dependent on experience and practical skills
● Company pension
● Employee discount
This is an in-person studio role and cannot be carried out remotely.
How to Apply
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, we’d love to hear from you.
Before applying, please take a little time to find out about Morgan & French, what we make and the type of personalised jewellery we specialise in.
Please apply via Indeed with your CV and a short covering letter addressed to Ms L Morgan.
In your covering letter, we’d love you to tell us:
● A little about yourself
● Why this particular role appeals to you
● Any jewellery-making, craft, design or practical experience you have
● Any creative hobbies or interests you enjoy
● What you like doing in your spare time
● Which two days you would ideally be available to work from Monday to Thursday
● Whether you would be interested in additional hours in the future
We want to get a feel for the person behind the CV, so the covering letter is an important part of our selection process and applications without one will not be considered.
Please apply via Indeed only – no emails or telephone calls. Thank you.
