Full job description
Lancaster Medical School seeks to appoint an expert in medical law to the role of Teaching Fellow in Medical Law.
You will work with the co-directors of the Medical Ethics and Law Teaching Theme at Lancaster Medical School to develop and deliver high quality and innovative teaching and assessment in medical law as part of both the undergraduate medical programme and the PhD in Medical Ethics and Law programme. You will work closely and flexibly as a team with members of the Medical Ethics and Law theme. This will also involve providing administrative support where necessary for the theme, attending key committee meetings, boards and admissions activities.
You will also contribute more generally to teaching, learning and assessment across the portfolio of provision in LMS according to their experience, for example by supervising student projects.
You will grow their teaching activity in line with requirements by the GMC and the needs of the Medical Ethics and Law Theme as set out by the Co-Directors Dr John Appleby and Dr Faye Tucker. You will be tasked with ensuring that the medical law offering in the medical degree remains innovative and of the highest quality. You must be able to adapt their teaching practices, strategies and materials to the dynamic and ever changing needs of the medical ethics and law teaching at the medical school.
The Faculty strategy has teaching collaborations as a priority, and you will have the opportunity to develop and contribute to teaching, learning and assessment in collaboration with clinical and academic colleagues with a very wide range of expertise.
Lancaster Medical School is based on the Lancaster University campus in the recently built Health Innovation One building.
The Faculty provides an environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee, promoting a healthy work-life balance. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education.
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr John Appleby (j.appleby@lancaster.ac.uk).
This post is available immediately and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching during the 2026/27 academic year.
General information: http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/lms/, http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/fhm/, http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/.
We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups and are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for this post, including working week, flexible start/finish times or condensed hours.
