Full job description

About the Role

We are looking for an exceptional operator to work directly alongside the Managing Director across a fast-moving, growing family business.

This role would suit somebody commercially aware, highly organised, practical, calm under pressure, and capable of switching between strategic thinking and hands-on execution at pace. One hour may involve coordinating contractors for a pharmacy refit, the next resolving operational issues, supporting recruitment, preparing business communications, reviewing data, attending meetings, managing suppliers, or helping deliver new projects across the business.

The right person will become a trusted extension of the Managing Director and senior leadership team. This is a role for somebody who enjoys responsibility, variety, autonomy, and solving problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Managing Director with operational delivery across the business
  • Coordinating contractors, suppliers, consultants, and external stakeholders
  • Improving operational systems, organisation, and processes
  • Preparing internal communications, updates, and business documentation
  • Assisting with planning, procurement, scheduling, and implementation work
  • Working closely with senior managers across pharmacy, IT, and operations
  • Supporting compliance, governance, and organisational standards
  • Analysing operational information and identifying practical improvements
  • Taking ownership of problems and seeing them through to resolution

About You

You are likely to be:

  • Commercially aware and operationally minded
  • Calm and capable under pressure
  • Practical and solutions-focused
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally
  • Confident working with people at all levels
  • Naturally proactive and self-motivated
  • Technically confident with Microsoft Office and business systems
  • Highly organised without becoming bureaucratic
  • Willing to roll your sleeves up and get involved where needed

Most importantly, you are dependable, adaptable, and willing to operate outside your comfort zone in a growing and rewarding business.

Desirable Experience

Experience in some of the following areas would be beneficial, but not essential. We are looking for someone adaptable.

  • Operations or project management
  • Executive Assistant or business support roles
  • Retail, healthcare, pharmacy, or logistics environments
  • Process improvement and systems implementation
  • Data analysis or reporting
  • Fast-paced SME environments

What This Role Is Not

This is not a heavily corporate environment with layers of management and narrow responsibilities. We are looking for somebody who enjoys variety, takes ownership, thinks independently, and wants to play an active role in helping a business continue to improve and grow.

What we offer you

  • Direct exposure to senior decision-making and business strategy
  • Competitive salary dependent on experience
  • Opportunity to progress and develop within the business
  • A culture that genuinely recognises effort -from department fun budgets and team treats to our legendary prize wheel for going above and beyond
  • Third-generation family business with people-first values
  • Enhanced paid sick leave
  • Annual pay review
  • Company pension
  • Long-service bonuses
  • Company-wide events, such as our Summer BBQ and Christmas celebrations
  • Staff discount scheme
  • Free parking

Pay: From £40,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company events
  • Employee discount
  • Free flu jabs
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
  • Referral programme
  • Sick pay

Willingness to travel:

  • 25% (preferred)

Work Location: In person
