Programme Director — Business Transformation & Systems
Blackburn area, Lancashire — hybrid

A successful, privately owned UK manufacturer is embarking on a multi-year transformation of its systems and operations, anchored by the ground-up build of a new cloud-native customer and commercial platform. It now seeks a Programme Director to drive delivery — reporting directly to the Group CEO and working in close partnership with the Group IT Director.

This is emphatically a delivery role. The strategy has sponsorship; what the business needs is the person who converts ambition into sequenced, governed, deliverable programmes of work — and then personally drives them through. You will shape business cases, structure workstreams, run governance, manage partners and vendors, and stay hands-on through implementation, cutover and benefits realisation. You will mentor and raise the standard of project managers already in the business, and in time may stand up a PMO — but you will not be managing a large team from a distance. If your strength is the org chart rather than the Gantt chart, this is not the role.

We would like to see:

  • End-to-end programme delivery of major systems and business change — scoping through to banked benefits, not handed off at design
  • Comfort spanning IT-led change (ERP, CRM, platforms, automation) and broader operational improvement
  • Board-level presence combined with genuine day-to-day delivery accountability in recent roles
  • Evidence of self-direction: identifying and shaping programmes, not just receiving them

Senior Programme Managers ready to step up will be as warmly received as existing Directors who have stayed close to the work.

This Hybrid role is output managed, not by presence. Practically speaking, working in a team, 3 days in 2 days flexible is the benchmark.
