Full job description

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our Treatment Solutions business. You'll be working within our established Proposals, Concepts, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Innovation and Products team, supporting the development and delivery of innovative water and wastewater treatment solutions for our clients across the UK.

You'll play a key role in developing technically sound, competitive and accurately priced proposals, taking projects from initial client enquiry through concept development and FEED to tender submission. Working closely with our Engineering, Design, Commercial and Project Delivery teams, you'll help secure new business opportunities while ensuring our solutions are technically robust, commercially viable and aligned with RSE's innovative approach to project delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your engineering expertise within a forward-thinking business, contributing to the development of modular treatment technologies, sustainable solutions and innovative products that are helping to transform the Water industry.

Please note that whilst this role is predominantly office based, travel to client meetings and project sites will be required, with occasional working away from home and international travel.

Some of your key duties include:

  • Review client enquiries, tender documentation, drawings and specifications to develop technically compliant and commercially competitive proposals.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, Bills of Quantities, material take-offs and pricing schedules, ensuring appropriate allowances for project risks, overheads and margins.
  • Liaise with specialist subcontractors, equipment suppliers and manufacturers to obtain and evaluate quotations in line with project specifications.
  • Develop and coordinate engineering concepts and FEED deliverables, including process calculations, equipment specifications, layouts, process flow diagrams and outline designs.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Design, Commercial and Project Delivery teams to establish project programmes, identify risks and ensure accurate tender submissions.
  • Apply RSE's Modular First approach, identifying opportunities to incorporate standardised designs, offsite manufacturing and innovative treatment technologies.
  • Attend client meetings, site surveys and tender clarification meetings, providing technical support and responding to client requirements.
  • Support the development of RSE's products and technologies, including research and development projects, pilot plants and technology trials.
  • Evaluate alternative engineering solutions, considering whole-life costs, carbon impacts, constructability and operational requirements.
  • Prepare technical documentation, tender submissions and detailed project handover information to support the successful delivery of secured projects.
  • Ensure all proposals and engineering solutions comply with relevant technical standards, Health and Safety legislation, environmental requirements and company procedures.

What Do You Need?

  • Degree, HND or HNC qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, such as Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong technical engineering knowledge, with an understanding of Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering principles and their interfaces.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation to prepare Bills of Quantities, pricing schedules and procurement information.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering design codes, technical standards, regulations and industry best practices.
  • Good understanding of project programmes, schedules and the sequencing of engineering and construction activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical and innovative engineering solutions.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with clients, suppliers and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and MS Project.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently or as part of a wider team.
  • Experience within a proposals, estimating, process or project engineering role would be advantageous, ideally within the Water, Wastewater, Industrial, Renewables or Oil & Gas sectors.
  • Experience of concept design, FEED, modular construction or Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, NEC contracts, framework pricing or estimating software would be advantageous.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards professional accreditation, would be beneficial.
  • Full clean UK Driving Licence.
