Job description

PSYCHOLOGY GRADUATES WELCOME

We are looking for candidates to take part in our training programme to become qualified Residential Support Workers specialising in emotional and behavioural disorders. Our aim is to support children in care with mental health problems, addiction issues or other emotional or social needs aged 11 - 18.

Your day-to-day tasks might include:

  • checking residents’ needs and progress
  • providing physical care, including supporting residents to keep their hygiene routines
  • providing one-to-one keywork sessions
  • teaching daily living skills like budgeting, shopping and medical appointments
  • providing leisure and creative activities in a safe and supportive setting
  • helping residents to deal with problems and become independent
  • talking with residents' families and arranging family and home visits
  • To ensure each resident is achieving their academic potential either vocational or traditional routes.

You'll also be expected to keep accurate records and write reports. These may be used in case reviews, court documentation and future care plans.

Working Hours:

You'll work around 40 hours a week, often on a shift rota including weekends, evenings and wake-in duties. You may also be on call at times, so experience is essential to this role.

Typical shifts are:

Weekends: Long days 9am - 8pm

Wake Nights: 8pm - 9am

You'll be based in registered children's home so an up to date Enhanced DBS is essential to the post. It is expected that you will assist residents within the community doing planned activities.

The work can be challenging, as you may be supporting residents with unpredictable behaviour.
