Full job description
Position: Therapy Assistant (Part Time) - Witham Prospect School
Salary - £28,059.20- £28,766.40- (depending on qualifications and experience)-The salary will be Pro rata on Part Time contract
Average Working Hours – 16 Hours - over 2 working days
The Therapy Assistant will comprehensively work to support the multi-disciplinary team and will also collaborate with the other senior leadership members of the home/school to provide high quality specialised clinical support to the children and young people in our care in order for them to achieve their full potential in area of their social, emotional, physical and educational development. The Therapy Assistant will be required to maintain comprehensive and appropriate records in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA).
Key Responsibilities:
- To accurately review and input data in a timely manner.
- To effectively support to undertake direct systematic observations and utilise assessment.
- Adequately create resources to support therapeutic interventions.
- To assist in general administration, service development and audits required as part of the various therapy services.
- To participate in multidisciplinary and multi-agency working.
- To assist in the delivery of early intervention work within school and residential settings.
- Developing and implementing therapeutically informed resources.
- To work within and support other members of the therapy team.
- To support in developing the children and people’s social/emotional skills (depending on individual needs) enabling them to self-regulate.
- To assist in supporting young person and staff to develop calming/coping strategies, which are appropriate to the individual.
Essential Criteria
- Have, or be undertaking a degree in relevant Social Sciences (Psychology which is BPS accredited, SALT, or OT).
- Proven experience and knowledge of working with children and young people with special educational needs, with particular reference to severe learning disabilities.
- A good understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and how it is utilised to support children and young people with behaviours that can be challenging to support.
- Be committed to own personal growth and development and support the ethos that learning is a life-long process.
- A positive, proactive “can do” approach combined with the resilience to retain a sense of perspective whilst working under pressure.
- Effective communication and motivation skills.
