Trainee Pub Manager

The Boat Inn – Stockton, Warwickshire (Near Rugby)
Full-Time Position | Competitive Pay | Career Progression Opportunities

About The Boat Inn

The Boat Inn is a busy and welcoming canalside pub in Stockton, Warwickshire, serving homemade food, well-kept ales and genuine pub hospitality.

We are proud to be a dog-friendly and family-friendly destination for locals, walkers, cyclists, narrowboaters, motorhomers and visitors, with a growing reputation for quality food, great service and a warm atmosphere.

As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and ambitious Trainee Pub Manager to join our team and develop into a future management role.

The Role

This is a full-time, hands-on position where no two days are the same.

You will work closely alongside the management team, learning every aspect of running a successful pub while helping deliver excellent customer service and maintaining high operational standards.

This is not a desk-based management role. We are looking for someone who leads by example, enjoys working alongside the team and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and get involved in every aspect of the business.

From serving behind the bar and greeting customers to helping during busy service periods, assisting with deliveries, maintaining standards and supporting the wider team, you'll be expected to be actively involved in the day-to-day operation of the pub.

The role includes regular evening, weekend and bank holiday work, as these are some of our busiest trading periods.

You will gain experience in:

  • Bar and floor service
  • Customer service and guest relations
  • Staff supervision and leadership
  • Cellar management
  • Stock control and ordering
  • Cash handling and till procedures
  • Event planning and promotions
  • Food service operations
  • Health and safety compliance
  • Running shifts and supporting daily operations

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day running of the pub
  • Deliver exceptional customer service at all times
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and attention to detail throughout the venue
  • Assist in supervising, motivating and supporting team members
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and colleagues
  • Support stock management, ordering and cash control procedures
  • Help organise and deliver events, functions and promotions
  • Ensure all health, safety and food hygiene standards are maintained
  • Lead by example with a positive, professional and hands-on attitude
  • Assist management with opening and closing procedures
  • Identify areas for improvement and take pride in maintaining high standards
  • Help ensure every customer receives a warm welcome and excellent experience

What We're Looking ForEssential

  • Minimum 1 year's hospitality experience
  • A genuine passion for hospitality and customer service
  • Excellent attention to detail and high personal standards
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both customers and team members
  • Confident, approachable and professional at all times
  • Reliable, punctual and well-presented
  • A positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop
  • Ability to remain calm and organised during busy service periods
  • Flexible and available to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays
  • Must be able to travel to and from The Boat Inn reliably without depending on bus services
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on role and leading from the front
  • Willing to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in wherever needed, whether that's serving customers, clearing tables, assisting behind the bar, helping with deliveries, cleaning, or supporting the wider team during busy periods
  • A team player who understands that everyone works together to deliver a great customer experience
  • A desire to build a long-term career within hospitality management

Desirable

  • Previous pub experience
  • Supervisory or team leader experience
  • Cellar, stock control or ordering experience
  • Personal licence holder (not essential)

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Structured training and ongoing support
  • Clear progression opportunities to Assistant Manager and Pub Manager roles
