Location: Teignmouth, Devon, UK

About East Street Pub Company
We’re a family-run, independent hospitality group based in South Devon. Our focus is simple: great food, great drinks and great hospitality that makes people feel welcome. Every one of our venues has its own personality, supported by a team that shares the values of kindness, respect and a passion for creating memorable experiences. Joining us means becoming part of an independent, hands-on group that cares just as much about its people as its customers.

About Ye Olde Jolly Sailor:
Nestled in the heart of Teignmouth, Ye Olde Jolly Sailor is believed to be the oldest building in town. It’s a pub with centuries of character and a loyal community at its core, welcoming locals and holidaymakers year-round. Known for its warm atmosphere, traditional charm and excellent food and drink, The Jolly Sailor is a well-loved landmark with exciting potential for continued growth. We’re now looking for a Manager who can honour its heritage while helping elevate the guest experience even further.

Role Overview:
As Pub Manager, you’ll oversee every aspect of the pub’s operation to ensure smooth service, high standards and a warm, memorable customer experience. You’ll lead from the front, drive the venue’s commercial performance and inspire a team who share your passion for proper hospitality. This is a hands-on role with genuine autonomy and the chance to shape the next chapter of one of Teignmouth’s most historic pubs.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

· Recruit, train and motivate an outstanding front-of-house, bar and kitchen team.

· Foster a positive workplace where people feel valued and supported.

· Lead by example to deliver consistently excellent customer service.

Operations Management:

· Oversee all daily operations, including service delivery, cleanliness and health and safety compliance.

· Ensure all licensing regulations are upheld.

· Coordinate and enhance regular events such as quiz nights and seasonal promotions.

· Work closely with the kitchen team to maintain a high-quality food offering aligned with customer expectations.

Customer Experience:

· Build strong relationships with guests, locals and community groups.

· Maintain a welcoming atmosphere rooted in great hospitality.

· Respond to feedback and reviews proactively, resolving complaints promptly and professionally.

Financial Management:

· Manage budgets, stock levels and supplier relationships.

· Monitor sales performance and identify opportunities to grow revenue.

· Oversee cash handling, financial reporting and cost control.

Marketing & Promotions:

· Drive footfall through effective marketing, social media activity and community engagement.

· Collaborate with our internal marketing team to bring creative ideas to life.

· Support seasonal campaigns, events and initiatives designed to attract both locals and visitors.

Requirements:

· Proven experience in pub management or a similar hospitality role.

· Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Sound knowledge of licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and financial management.

· Passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

What We Offer:

· Competitive salary.

· Opportunity to manage a historic and iconic pub in a vibrant coastal town.

· A supportive and collaborative working environment.

How to Apply:
Please submit your CV and a cover letter telling us about your relevant experience and why you’d make a great fit for this role.
