Health and Safety Advisor

Designer Group | London-based with UK project remit | Full-time

About Designer Group

Designer Group is a leading international mechanical and electrical engineering provider, delivering complex M&E services across Ireland, the UK, Europe and international markets.

Headquartered in Dublin, we work with major clients across sectors including commercial, industrial, infrastructure, data centres, energy and life sciences. Our continued growth is built on the quality of our people, our technical capability and our commitment to delivering projects safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

At Designer Group, safety is not treated as a compliance exercise. It is central to how we plan, manage and deliver our work.

Role overview

We are now seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to support our UK operations.

Based out of London, this role will provide health and safety support across a range of UK projects, working closely with project teams, site management, subcontractors and senior operational stakeholders.

This is a visible, site-facing role suited to someone who is comfortable engaging with teams on live construction projects. You will carry out inspections, support safe systems of work, review documentation, advise on risk, investigate incidents and help ensure that health and safety standards are consistently applied across our UK project portfolio.

The role will suit someone with experience in construction, M&E, building services, infrastructure or similar project environments who is confident working with site teams and influencing safe behaviours in a practical, constructive way.

key responsibilities

As Health and Safety Advisor, you will:

  • Support the implementation of Designer Group’s health and safety policies, procedures and standards across UK projects.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety walks.
  • Identify risks, unsafe behaviours or non-compliance and work with site teams to close out actions.
  • Support project teams with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and site inductions where required.
  • Monitor PPE compliance, housekeeping, access/egress, plant, lifting operations and general site safety standards.
  • Support incident, accident and near-miss investigations, ensuring reports are completed accurately and actions are followed through.
  • Maintain health and safety records, inspection reports, permits, registers and site documentation.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, drills and response planning.
  • Liaise with project managers, construction managers, subcontractors and client representatives on health and safety matters.
  • Promote a positive safety culture across projects, encouraging ownership and accountability at site level.
  • Advise management on opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
  • Support compliance with UK health and safety legislation, client requirements and Designer Group standards.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who can bring a practical, site-led approach to health and safety.

You should have:

  • Experience in a Health and Safety Advisor, EHS Advisor, HSE Advisor or similar role.
  • Previous experience within construction, mechanical and electrical, building services, infrastructure or industrial project environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction safety requirements.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, toolbox talks and incident investigations.
  • Confidence reviewing RAMS, permits, lifting plans, access arrangements and safe systems of work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence site teams positively.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate safety records and reports.
  • Flexibility to travel to project sites across the UK as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • IOSH membership or working towards membership.
  • A relevant qualification in occupational health and safety, construction safety or a related discipline.
  • CSCS card or equivalent site safety certification.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred due to the multi-site nature of the role.

Why join Designer Group?

This is an opportunity to join a growing international engineering business with a strong UK project pipeline and a clear commitment to safe delivery.

You will be joining a team where health and safety has real visibility, where your input will directly influence site standards, and where you will work across varied, technically interesting M&E projects.

At Designer Group, we invest in our people, support professional development and offer the opportunity to build a long-term career within a business that continues to grow across the UK and Europe.

application process

If you are an experienced Health and Safety Advisor and are interested in supporting major M&E projects across the UK, we would welcome your application.

Apply today and a member of our recruitment team will be in touch with shortlisted candidates.

Designer Group is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates regardless of gender, race, disability, age, religion, sexual orientation or background.
