About Us
nicssa Make Things Happenby Empowering People and Inspiring Community.
Who are we
Formed in 1950 the Association has its origins in the NI Civil Service. Since then the organisation has developed and evolved and in 2021 registered as a charity with the Charity Commission NI. Our HQ is located within the Stormont Estate. The organisation is governed by a Council, supported by a CEO and Senior Leadership Team and 35 plus staff.
What we do
We develop and deliver a wide range of health, well-being, sport and leisure services, experiences and a range of training programmes for people representing a wide range of groups including our members and local and wider community.
How we deliver
We deliver our services and activities to people through a network of 34 workplace clubs across Northern Ireland and through 14 sports clubs based at the Pavilion Complex, Stormont.
On a much broader scale we deliver numerous sporting activities and events in conjunction with our key partners in governing bodies of sport. We also deliver through contracts with the NICS, the wider public sector and the private sector a range of training programmes covering mental and physical health, communication and leadership.

The Role: Health Promotion and Training Lead
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference. As the Health Promotion and Training Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering nicssa’s health and wellbeing strategy. You will lead the development of innovative programmes and training initiatives that engage members, communities and organisations while supporting and guiding delivery staff.
You will be at the heart of our mission; driving healthier lifestyles, growing participation and creating meaningful connections through both engagement and education.
What You’ll Be Doing
Leading the design, coordination and delivery of health and wellbeing programmes and training initiatives including:
Managing both mobile and Stormont based health check clinics which include:
Administration: Completing booking process, engaging with contacts to arrange visits to health check locations, staffing
Preparing and maintaining equipment
Delivering health checks:
- Body composition analysis (Tanita equipment)
- Total Cholesterol and Glucose testing
- Peak flow measurement
- Spo2 Level measurement
- Blood pressure assessment
Identifying results that need follow-up and escalating to clinical services.
Reporting on health checks including departmental breakdowns, monthly and annual overview
Developing and delivering wellbeing and training and development workshops for members, staff and partner organisations
Providing leadership, guidance and support to Health Promotion Officers and delivery teams
Promoting nicssa wellbeing and training and development services through strategic campaigns, events and digital content
Building and managing relationships with key partners, stakeholders and public sector departments
Acting as an ambassador for nicssa, championing the benefits of health and wellbeing
Monitoring and evaluating programme impact, using insights to improve and grow services
Supporting the planning and delivery of events, workshops and large-scale initiatives
Driving innovation by identifying new opportunities for engagement and training

You are digitally confident and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), with experience using digital platforms for engagement or training.
Time Management
You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can manage competing priorities effectively.
Drive & Initiative
You bring energy, ideas and a proactive mindset, always looking for ways to improve impact and reach.
Essential Requirements
· Full, clean driving licence (travel required across Northern Ireland)
· 3rd level qualification in Sports Science, nutrition or related field
· Experience delivering health promotion initiatives and/or training programmes
Desirable
· Experience in a leadership, supervisory or mentoring role.
· Experience designing training materials or programmes.
· Knowledge of public health, workplace wellbeing or behaviour change approaches.
