About APHA
The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, working in partnership with the Scottish and Welsh Governments. With more than 3,000 dedicated professionals, APHA delivers vital research, expert advice and operational support to safeguard animal, plant and public health, protecting the environment and strengthening the UK economy.
APHA is a fantastic place to build your career. We are proud of our inclusive culture, where people feel valued, empowered and able to be their authentic selves. Diversity of thought, background and experience enables us to innovate, solve complex challenges and make better decisions. We are committed to equality of opportunity and actively encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, particularly those from underrepresented groups.
Within APHA, the Science Directorate delivers high-impact, multidisciplinary science that directly supports government priorities. Our teams are collaborative, forward-thinking and passionate about delivering excellence.
The Role
This exciting opportunity sits at the heart of the APHA Science Estate, supporting operational activity at our Weybridge site and across regional laboratories. You will act as a key interface between scientific teams, estates colleagues and external providers, helping ensure our facilities run efficiently and effectively.
You will support the Science Estates Manager and Business Lead with operational maintenance, stakeholder engagement and project delivery. This includes monitoring facilities performance, coordinating maintenance activities and ensuring issues are escalated and resolved in a timely manner. Working closely with building officers, contractors and facilities management providers, you will help keep critical infrastructure running smoothly.
You will also contribute to transformation projects, supporting the movement and setup of scientific equipment, assisting with logistics and site transitions, and helping maintain business continuity across complex sites. Responsibilities include coordinating meetings, tracking progress, analysing data and providing clear updates to stakeholders.
Alongside this, you will deliver key administrative support, such as managing SharePoint resources, maintaining contact lists, organising meetings and facilitating site visits. This varied, hands-on role offers the chance to gain insight into scientific operations, estates management and project delivery while making a real impact.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will be confident managing multiple priorities, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to present information clearly.
Experience in a scientific, technical or specialist environment is desirable, as are strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and SharePoint. Knowledge of Power BI or data analysis tools would be an advantage.
Above all, you will be a positive, enthusiastic team player who is eager to learn and develop.
What’s in it for me?
In return, APHA offers excellent support for your development and wellbeing. Benefits include generous annual leave, a Civil Service pension with a 28.97% employer contribution, recognition schemes, employee discounts and salary sacrifice options.
We also offer flexible working through flexi-time, three paid volunteering days per year and a vibrant social network, including events and team-building activities at Weybridge.
Closing date: Monday 20th July at 23:55.
Pay: £33,350.00 per year
Work Location: In person
