Planning Enforcement Officer

£25,989 – £44,075 per annum (Career Grade)
37 hours per week

We are looking for a motivated and confident Planning Enforcement Officer to join our team in this career graded post, offering genuine development from entry level through to a more experienced enforcement role, with progression based on experience, performance and service need. You will help protect the integrity of the planning system by ensuring development across the district is lawful, fair and in line with approved permissions. You will manage a varied caseload of planning enforcement matters, including:

  • Investigate alleged breaches of planning control through site inspections, research and case assessment.
  • Maintain accurate case records, enforcement registers and supporting documentation.
  • Draft reports, correspondence and statutory notices, and recommend appropriate action.
  • Negotiate with developers, landowners and the public to secure compliance where possible.
  • Prepare evidence and represent the Council at appeals, hearings, inquiries or court proceedings where required.

Your work will make a visible difference by tackling unauthorised development and uses within the district, reinforcing confidence in the planning system and its ability to deliver appropriate development which aligns to the Council's aspirations.

  • You have an interest in planning enforcement and are willing to develop knowledge of planning legislation and processes.
  • You can demonstrate strong communication, negotiation and customer service skills.
  • You can be confident in dealing with the public and stakeholders in a calm, professional manner.
  • You can manage your workload, prioritise effectively and maintain accurate digital records.
  • You are educated to A-Level/NVQ3 or equivalent or have comparable experience.
  • Experience in enforcement, planning or a regulatory environment would be an advantage, but we also welcome applicants with the potential to grow into the role.
