Job Description for Wardrobe Director

Company Overview:

We are most famous for our award-winning event, buried deep in the Crown Estate near Ascot. 18 years ago, Mike & Alison Battle created the event out of their own desire to take their children somewhere that would celebrate the pure, commercially unsullied, magic of Christmas. Now, with the help of Hollywood set-designers, West-End actors and more than a sprinkling of magic, the event is keeping the magic of Christmas alive for thousands of children every year.

LaplandUK celebrates and honours the values, imagination, and wonderment of childhood through our magical world, rich storytelling and immersive memory making experiences.

This is an exciting period of growth for us, as we look for new ways to bring the Lapland experience to a global audience through media, publishing, live shows, and eCommerce channels.

Role Summary:

The Director’s role is to lead and oversee all departmental operations, with the following main objectives;

· Develop and direct strategy to deliver a full and seamlessly functioning Wardrobe Department to the live event site(s).

· Oversee the costume team to support the creation and maintenance of the costume and wig stock, within budget and to key milestones, seeking out and driving efficiencies.

· Overseeing the Wardrobe Operations team to deliver seamless management of the Wardrobe department during the live event(s).

You will be overseeing the teams responsible for delivery of all costume stock and operational facilities needed for the show(s). Driving operational efficiency by continually improving the design, sourcing and production in line with the evolving business.

Ensuring clear and effective communications to connect all relevant stakeholders, liaising with designers, consultants and suppliers as well as the business and show leadership teams.

Continually ensuring the provision of excellent standards of costume care and presentation, adherence to the LaplandUK ethos, procedures and departmental targets.

Strategic Development

· Working closely with the Costume Manager and Wardrobe Ops Manager to build and direct strategy that will enable the department to expertly support the live show(s).

· Investigate opportunities to support the current ambitions of the business, including additional sites both in the UK and internationally.

· Analyse all available information and evidence from within and outside of the department to Identify efficiencies and make decisions according to evolving needs of the business, including supply chains and lines of production.

· Work with the Head of Production to forecast, set and manage budgets. Follow financial payment and reporting procedures and ensure strategic forecasting.

· Prepare and present strategy, budget and debrief reports as required at key points during the year.

Driving department efficiencies

· Ensure teams are keeping detailed planners and following a Critical Path in order to deliver tasks to schedule.

· Identify and use all available resources and opportunity to streamline efficiencies whilst always maintaining excellent quality control.

· Oversee and support the Costume team in delivering plans to source, negotiate, purchase and make items updating costume and wig stock, carry out refurbishment, manage fittings and alterations, and deliver all items required to the operations team.

· Driving faster and more cost-efficient routes to costume production without compromising quality and performance.

· Oversee and support the Wardrobe Ops team to develop and deliver the show manual containing all materials needed to run the department. Including clear recruitment and training plans, staff rotas, site infrastructure plans, costume guides, live checklists and reporting systems.

· Driving performance of ops teams to deliver the highest show standards.

· Strong knowledge and understanding of departmental processes and factors that impact strategy and planning.

Excellent leadership skills

Direct Reports: Costume Manager, Wardrobe Operations Manager.

· Identify department personnel needs, responding dynamically to any operational challenges or changes to strategy. Manage recruitment in line with LaplandUK brief.

· Guide team members to reach their full potential and inspire positivity, morale and productivity within the department, building excellent relationships across all levels of the business.

· Respond professionally to team concerns and ensure that any issues are escalated as appropriate and remedial action taken to avoid repeat issues.

· Conduct performance reviews and ensure all staff are supported to deliver KPIs.

· Lean on the team to build and maintain detailed knowledge of all Lapland characters and costumes, as well as operational systems.

· Identify opportunities to recognise and reward strong team and individual performances.

· Confidently and positively challenge new ideas and established processes to ensure the department remains dynamic to change.

· Remain knowledgeable and up to date with industry practises whilst recognising the companies’ unique business model.

· Manage disciplinary issues and staff grievances as appropriate and with support from HR.

Excellent communication

· Keep all stakeholders connected and communicating clearly and positively ensuring projects remain on track.

· Ensure all team members have the information, guidance and support needed to carry out their jobs efficiently and successfully.

· Liaise with key stakeholders, including designers, consultants, and suppliers, ensuring that all parties have been given adequate briefs and materials needed, and targets and budgets are met.

· Conduct regular team meetings and 1-1s in order to encourage open discussion, transparency and accountability.

· Collate departmental debriefs outlining successes, challenges and remedial actions needed following the end of the live season and other large projects.

Head Office

· To attend any Head Office functions, meetings or social gathering, as a full-time member of the Head Office team.

· Attend and complete any training as required by the Company

· Take responsibility for executing and adhering to company statutory policies and brand standards as trained. Predominately but not limited to H&S policies.

Experience required:

Leadership level experience in large scale theatre and event productions, including within a live wardrobe environment and/or costume workshop. Leadership of a team of costume professionals with key focus on delivering excellent standards to strict timeframes and on budget and meeting KPIs

Salary –

£60,000 - £70,000 Depending on experience.
