Job Purpose Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Machine Shop & Fabrication Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of our CNC machining and sheet metal departments.

Reporting directly to the Production Manager, you will lead a team responsible for CNC machining, punch press, waterjet cutting and associated manufacturing processes.

You will be responsible for ensuring production targets are achieved safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards, while developing your team and driving continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with strong manufacturing experience, excellent people management skills and a passion for improving performance.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Supervise the daily operations of both the CNC machine shop and sheet metal fabrication area.
  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of machinists, operators and fabricators.
  • Plan and prioritise workloads to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Ensure safe working practices are followed and promote positive health and safety culture.
  • Monitor productivity, machine utilisation and labour efficiency.
  • Ensure components are manufactured to specification and meet quality standards.
  • Coordinate production across CNC machining, punch press and waterjet cutting operations.
  • Work closely with Production Planning, Engineering, Quality and Maintenance to resolve production issues.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to improve productivity, quality and cost.
  • Support employee training, development and skills progression.
  • Conduct return- to-work meetings, performance reviews and absence management where required.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organisation (5S).
  • Assist in capacity planning and resource allocation to maximise output.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • A strong understanding of CNC machining processes, including milling and/or turning.
  • Experience supervising or working with sheet metal manufacturing processes such as punch press and waterjet cutting is desirable.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate teams.
  • The ability to make sound decisions under pressure and effectively prioritise workloads.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and understanding manufacturing specifications.
  • Good knowledge of quality systems and health and safety requirements.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
