Job Title: Ward Healthcare Assistant (HCA)
Location: Medicana, Winchester
Department: Inpatient Wards
Reports to: Ward Manager / Senior Nurse
Contract: Full-time
Salary: Dependant on Experience

Role Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Healthcare Assistant to join our inpatient ward team. You will support registered nurses in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within a private hospital environment, ensuring patients feel safe, comfortable, and respected at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal care, including washing, dressing, toileting, and mobility.
  • Support patients with meals and hydration, including assisting with feeding when required.
  • Monitor and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation).
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Support infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised ward environment.
  • Assist with stock control and equipment preparation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Report any concerns or changes in patient condition to a registered nurse promptly.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or care setting.
  • Experience in monitoring vital signs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate, patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding principles.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
  • Venepuncture/Cannulation skills/competencies
  • Male/Female Catheterisation skills/competencies
