Full job description

The Hanley and Upton Educational Trust is seeking to appoint a Family Support Worker to work across Hanley Castle High School and our partner primary schools. This is a unique opportunity to provide early, practical and relational support to vulnerable children and their families, helping to improve attendance, strengthen engagement and ensure children are safe, in school and able to learn.

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and highly organised individual with experience of working directly with children, young people and families, including those facing difficulties or crisis. Applicants should hold a relevant Level 3 qualification (or above) in a related field, such as family support, social care, youth work, early years, teaching or counselling, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience. The successful candidate will be skilled in building trusting relationships with children and families, remaining calm and non-judgemental in challenging situations, working collaboratively with partner agencies and helping families overcome barriers that affect children's wellbeing, attendance and engagement with school.
Strong safeguarding knowledge, effective record-keeping, excellent communication skills and a commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable children are essential. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are required.

Hours: 35 hours per week, term-only plus 8 Professional Development Days (PDD’s).

Terms: This is a fixed-term position for two years in the first instance funded through a time-limited funding allocation, with the potential for continuation subject to future funding arrangements.

Salary: Scale 6, SCP18 – 22, £32,578 - £34,811 FTE. Pro-rated to £26,471 - £28,286 per annum.

Start date: As soon as possible.

To apply: Please click apply now, and complete and return our application form by the closing date of 9.00am on Thursday 5th November 2026.

Interviews are expected to be held on Wednesday 11th November 2026.
