Full job description

At CGI, we're redefining what quality means in the age of AI and automation. As a Test Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering complex, high-impact testing programmes that shape how our clients achieve excellence at scale. You'll combine deep technical expertise with innovation and leadership, enhancing automation frameworks, applying AI-driven techniques, and mentoring the next generation of test professionals. This is your opportunity to influence the future of quality engineering across multiple industries, driving outcomes that matter while growing your own career within a truly collaborative environment.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer' by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you'll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We'll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.

Due to the secure nature of some of our programmes, you may need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. Our teams operate within a flexible hybrid working model, however on-site requirements vary by project, so the ability to travel as required to meet client needs is essential.

Your future duties and responsibilities

As a Test Engineer at CGI, you'll take ownership of quality across large-scale transformation programmes, defining and leading test strategies that embed automation, performance engineering, and AI-enhanced testing practices. You'll collaborate closely with developers, architects, and business stakeholders to design intelligent frameworks and ensure testing is seamlessly integrated into Agile and DevOps pipelines. Working alongside CGI's community of experts, you'll influence our clients' testing maturity while helping to shape CGI's own approach to AI-enabled quality engineering.

  • Lead & Deliver: Define, implement, and lead test strategies for complex programmes, ensuring quality is built into every stage of delivery.
  • Innovate & Automate: Design and enhance automation frameworks with intelligent test generation, adaptive execution, and self-healing capabilities.
  • Collaborate & Integrate: Work cross-functionally with developers, architects, and business leads to embed testing into CI/CD and DevOps practices.
  • Apply AI Thoughtfully: Use AI tools to generate test cases, enhance coverage, and drive smarter, data-led testing decisions.
  • Mentor & Empower: Support and develop engineers and test leads, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and shared learning.
  • Measure & Improve: Track test metrics and outcomes, demonstrating measurable value and driving continuous enhancement across engagements.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

You'll bring a proven track record in test engineering, combining hands-on technical depth with the ability to lead, innovate, and influence. You'll thrive in collaborative environments, with a passion for automation, AI in testing, and the continuous pursuit of quality excellence.

  • Extensive experience in test engineering across multiple domains.
  • Expertise in automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar).
  • Strong coding/scripting skills in Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience applying AI techniques such as intelligent test generation or defect prediction.
  • Familiarity with performance, load, and security testing.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps delivery models.
  • Proven experience leading test teams or mentoring others.
  • Knowledge of cloud testing (AWS, Azure, or hybrid environments).
  • ISTQB Advanced certification and experience testing AI/ML systems (desirable).
