NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The role:
An opportunity has arisen for Band 2 Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) within our hospital wards across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated HCSWs with effective communication skills to join our friendly teams. In return, we offer ongoing learning opportunities to support your learning and development. Full induction will be provided to all new starters.
You will be required to assist in delivering a high standard of nursing care to patients. - Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake.
- Observe and report any change in the condition of the patient and communicate this verbally to the nurse in charge.
- Assist patients who are unable to self-care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies.
- Carry out and assist with minor investigatory procedures, e.g. urinalysis, faecal occult blood testing and urine collections, as required. Report all findings to the trained nurse.
- Participate in and assist with the updating and completion of accurate patient documentation as necessary, e.g. fluid charts and care rounding charts, and file documents appropriately when required.
- Be responsible for the cleaning and tidying of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding cupboards for the storage of controlled drugs and medicines, and report any defects or areas of concern to the nurse in charge.
- Maintain adequate stocks of supplies from central and clinical stores, excluding medicines.
