Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Classic/Sports/Rally Preparation Car Mechanic who can confidently handle all aspects of mechanical work on vehicles manufactured before 1980. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for automobiles and a deep understanding of older sports car systems. The successful applicant will work in a dedicated workshop environment, applying specialised techniques to restore and optimise cars for enthusiasts and collectors alike. If you have a passion for engineering and enjoy working on cars with real character, this could be the perfect role for you.

Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of pre-1980 cars to identify mechanical issues
  • Carburettor tuning, balancing and rebuilding
  • Ignition system diagnosis and repair (including points, condensers and distributors)
  • Engine rebuilds, repair and restore engines, gearbox work and general drivetrain repairs
  • Braking systems, suspension and steering system restoration
  • Perform maintenance tasks including oil changes, tune-ups, and part replacements with hand tools and power tools
  • Fault finding on older systems without modern diagnostic equipment
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and service history for each vehicle
  • Ensuring work meets high standard of authenticity and reliability

Requirements:

  • Proven hands on experience working as a mechanic specialising in particularly pre-1980 models
  • In depth knowledge of older mechanical systems
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems creatively
  • A genuine passion for heritage vehicles
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and assembly techniques
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance, equipment repair, and general mechanical troubleshooting
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when handling vehicle parts or components
  • Reliability, excellent attention to detail and pride in workmanship with good organisational skills for managing multiple projects simultaneously

Bonus Skills (Not essential but beneficial):

Welding/Fabrication

Electrical troubleshooting on vehicle wiring

Experience with British, European or American marques
