ABOUT THE ROLE
Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally-Raid, GT racing and a variety of global customer racing activities. We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Engine Supervisor to join and run our busy Engine Department at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the preparation and delivery of high-performance competition engines, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Engine Shop and supporting a skilled team of Engine Builders. Working closely with colleagues across Engineering, Design, Workshop, Quality Control and other technical departments, you will ensure engines are built, maintained and delivered to the highest standards.
This role would suit an experienced Engine Builder ready to step into a supervisory position, or a current or former Workshop Foreman/Manager with a strong mechanical background from a dealership or car garage.
The role responsibilities include:
- Team Supervision: Lead and supervise the Engine Shop team, providing clear direction, support and guidance to ensure workloads are completed effectively.
- Work Planning: Plan and coordinate daily workloads, allocating tasks and resources to ensure engine builds and servicing activities are delivered to agreed deadlines.
- Production Scheduling: Monitor engine build and preparation schedules, identifying potential delays or resource requirements and communicating these to relevant departments.
- Quality & Standards: Ensure all engine work is completed to the required quality standards, specifications and procedures, maintaining a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support and guidance to Engine Builders, helping to resolve build issues and ensuring correct procedures are followed.
- Inspection & Verification: Ensure components and completed assemblies are inspected and verified at appropriate stages of the build process.
- Documentation: Ensure accurate build records, inspection documentation and relevant technical paperwork are completed and maintained.
- Performance Management: Monitor productivity, quality and team performance, providing coaching, guidance and regular feedback to maximise individual and team performance.
- Health & Safety: Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture, ensuring all workshop activities comply with company procedures and legislation.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Production, Stores, Purchasing and other departments to ensure projects are delivered on time.
- People Development: Support the training, mentoring and development of Builders, Apprentices and new starters.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to department processes, efficiency and working practices.
- General Department Management: Maintain high housekeeping standards and ensure equipment, tooling and facilities are managed effectively.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a self-motivated team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
Essential Criteria & Skills:
- Mechanical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical principles, engine assembly and component fitment.
- Team Leadership: Proven ability to supervise, monitor and support a team within a technical or production environment.
- Quality & Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail with a strong understanding of the importance of build, quality, accuracy and repeatability.
- Organisation: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workloads, priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to communicate effectively with technicians, engineers and management.
- Problem Solving: A proactive approach with strong decision-making skills and the ability to resolve operational challenges.
- IT Literacy: Competent using Microsoft Office applications.
- Technical Documentation: Ability to understand and accurately complete build specifications, inspection documents and technical procedures.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience working with high-performance, competition, automotive or motorsport engines is highly desirable.
- Experience managing technicians or mechanics in a fast-paced environment.
