COULD A BBC APPRENTICESHIP BE THE NEXT ROLE FOR YOU?

Join us as an apprentice at the BBC to give yourself the opportunity to kick-start your career in a job you'll love. We’re committed to your skills and talent development. You’ll learn on-the-job, developing your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you, whilst working towards your apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

WHY JOIN THIS SCHEME?

The Content Creator apprenticeship is designed to equip you with the skills to create engaging, impactful content across a range of platforms. You’ll learn how to plan and develop creative ideas, research target audiences, and produce audio, visual and written content suitable for different channels.

This hands-on, immersive programme combines practical workshops, interactive sessions, assignments and collaborative group projects. You’ll gain experience in creating, recording and editing video and audio content, while developing your planning, presentation and pitching skills. The scheme also provides a foundation in photography and imaging, social media and search engine optimisation (SEO), and website creation, giving you a broad understanding of modern digital content production.

Want to find out more? Watch recordings from our webinar series on our Life at the BBC YouTube playlist to learn more about this scheme and other opportunities we offer, and hear from current apprentices about their experiences.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM?

BBC Local operates a network of radio stations across England and the Channel Islands. From Truro to Newcastle, we are at the heart of the local community. Whilst our shows will primarily be studio-based, we are all about getting into the heart of the communities that we serve. We have a unique connection with our audience and love finding and sharing their stories. This placement will be based with BBC Radio Lancashire and may include the opportunity to work on local BBC Introducing shows. BBC Introducing is a network of creatives, producers, presenters, and music enthusiasts dedicated to discovering and supporting emerging musical talent across the UK.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Content Creator apprentice, this is brilliant opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute – you could expect to:

  • Play a part in creating trusted, high-quality content for BBC audiences.
  • Grow your storytelling skills through hands-on experience researching, writing, producing and editing content on a range of subjects.
  • Develop your digital content skills by monitoring audience trends and creating content for social media platforms, including selecting and editing clips from programmes for use on social media platforms.
  • Spot opportunities for digital content, including short clips, behind-the-scenes moments, interviews and talent‑led extras.
  • Learn from experienced professionals, collaborate with expert teams and develop your career at the world's largest public service broadcaster.

You’ll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job. This means that as well as learning on your placement at the BBC, you’ll also attend learning blocks (up to a week at a time) with our learning provider, working towards an industry recognised apprenticeship qualification - Level 3 Content Creator.

Learning blocks will be a mixture of in-person and virtual delivery, including attending instructor-led workships, tutorial sessions, presentations and group work.

For more information on what you will study during the scheme, please see the Content Creator apprenticeship standard.

As part of the programme, you will be required to travel to attend in-person learning blocks and other apprenticeship-related activities where necessary.

YOUR SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY

We’re interested in your passion for working at the BBC and your enthusiasm for delivering world-class content and operational excellence to our audiences. We’re not focused on your qualifications; instead, we look for potential and offer you the opportunity to apply your transferable strengths and experience to work in different ways.

If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply:

  • Bring fresh, creative ideas for engaging and reaching new audiences.
  • A genuine consumer of content who follows what is happening across platforms like TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.
  • Adaptable and versatile, able to switch between serious, issue‑based content and fun, high-energy entertainment.
  • A collaborative team player who is organised, motivated, adaptable and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passionate about your own self-development, showing the discipline and commitment required to complete the apprenticeship.

This scheme is aimed at non-graduates. If you have a degree and you’re interested in similar roles at the BBC, we recommend applying for jobs at the BBC careers site or having a look at our other apprenticeship schemes.
