About the Company

Civmec is an integrated, multi-disciplinary heavy engineering and construction provider to the metals and minerals, oil and gas, infrastructure, and marine and defence markets. From our purpose-built facility in Henderson, just south of Perth, we deliver innovative, end-to-end solutions on some of the largest industrial and defence projects in Australia.

At Civmec, we believe that building the right solutions in-house is key to meeting our evolving business needs and supporting sustainable growth. Our development team designs, builds, and maintains the internal applications that underpin our operations across engineering, construction, and manufacturing. Joining our team means working directly on systems that have a real and immediate impact across the business, and shaping the digital tools that enable our people to deliver major projects across Australia.

This is not agency work or outsourced delivery. You will own products used every day by the people who build ships, bridges, and processing plants.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Developer to manage the technical execution of our software development projects, ensuring the team delivers high-quality software solutions.

In this pivotal role, you will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, deployment and continuous improvement within an Agile environment. You will work closely with the Solutions Architect to ensure all technical decisions and development activities align with agreed architecture, standards and business objectives.

As the Lead Developer, you will help shape the direction of our software initiatives, championing best practices and driving technical excellence. Your role extends beyond hands-on development, requiring you to mentor and support the team while building a culture focused on continuous improvement and high performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the software development team in planning, designing, prototyping, developing, testing, and deploying software solutions that align with project requirements.
  • Provide accurate development estimates to support project planning and the delivery of realistic timelines.
  • Establish and maintain high standards of software quality, including coding practices, testing and documentation.
  • Manage the performance, development and capability of developers through regular meetings, feedback and development planning, setting clear expectations and driving continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate collaboration across functional teams to ensure software solutions meet business objectives and stakeholder expectations.
  • Assist the development team in identifying and resolving impediments to maintain momentum and efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive, actionable feedback.
  • Drive high-quality outcomes through effective testing, debugging, and CI/CD practices.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date technical documentation to support knowledge sharing and transparency.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices to improve development practices.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in software development, including previous experience in a leadership role.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate development teams in delivering large-scale projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and modern development methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to navigate complex challenges.
  • An understanding of application security best practices and regulations.

It is essential that you have experience with:

  • C# .NET / .NET Core
  • ASP.NET
  • Entity Framework
  • SQL Server

Highly desirable:

  • Experience with Domain Driven Design
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue)

You will also need to be genuinely committed to relocating to Australia and living in Perth long term, and eligible for an Australian employer-sponsored skilled visa. This normally means meeting skills assessment, English language, health and character (police clearance) requirements.

Relocating from the UK — What We Provide

We know that moving to the other side of the world is a significant decision, so we make the process as straightforward as we can. Our support includes:

  • Visa sponsorship — we sponsor your Australian employer-sponsored skilled visa and cover the nomination and application fees for you, your partner and your dependent children.
  • Immigration support — a registered migration agent manages your application and keeps you updated at every stage.
  • Flights — one-way flights to Perth for you and your immediate family.
  • Temporary accommodation — 2 weeks of accommodation on arrival while you find somewhere permanent.
  • Relocation allowance — a contribution towards shipping your belongings and setting up your new home.
  • Settling-in support — practical help with bank accounts, tax file numbers, Medicare enrolment, driver licence conversion, rental applications and schools.

Please note: visa processing takes time. We will keep you informed on realistic timeframes from the first conversation, and we support candidates through the whole process rather than leaving you to work it out alone.

Life in Perth, Western Australia

Perth consistently ranks among the world's most liveable cities. Expect around 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, some of the best beaches in the country a short drive from the office, a genuine work-life balance culture, and a commute measured in minutes rather than hours. Our facility is in Henderson, roughly 30 minutes south of the Perth CBD and close to the coast.

Civmec + You

At Civmec, we offer an inclusive workplace with a ‘Never Assume’ culture, sustained by our experienced and supportive management team. Our Reward and Recognition program acknowledges our employees’ achievements and contributions to Civmec’s success. Employment benefits include:

  • Employer superannuation contributions (the Australian equivalent of a workplace pension).
