Hours: Primarily evenings and weekends, including regular weekend shifts

About the Roles

Abbeydale Squash & Fitness Club is looking for enthusiastic, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to join our team.

We are recruiting for:

  • Receptionist / Key Holder
  • Gym Instructor / Key Holder
  • Hybrid Receptionist & Gym Instructor / Key Holder (for the right candidate)

These roles offer an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly, community-focused health and fitness club. As a key holder, you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the club, ensuring members receive excellent service while helping maintain a safe, welcoming, and professional environment.

Receptionist / Key Holder

Main Responsibilities

Reception & Customer Service

  • Welcome members, guests, and prospective members in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Manage reception, answer telephone calls, emails, and general enquiries.
  • Process memberships, bookings, payments, and retail sales accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming reception area.
  • Assist members with account enquiries and provide information on club facilities, classes, and events.
  • Carry out general administrative duties as required.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted key holder, carrying out opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure the security of the building and follow all health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with the smooth day-to-day operation of the club.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and well-presented environment.

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience in reception, administration, hospitality, leisure, or customer service.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility during shifts.
  • Flexible approach to evening and weekend working.
  • Must be over 18 and have the right to work in the UK.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft 365.

Gym Instructor / Key Holder

Main Responsibilities

Fitness & Member Support

  • Supervise the gym floor and provide support, guidance, and motivation to members.
  • Conduct gym inductions and basic fitness programme reviews.
  • Promote the safe and effective use of gym equipment.
  • Deliver high-quality group exercise classes.
  • Encourage member engagement through outstanding customer service.
  • Support member retention by creating a welcoming and inclusive fitness environment.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted key holder, carrying out opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure the security of the building and follow all health and safety procedures.
  • Work closely with management and colleagues to ensure smooth club operations.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and well-presented gym environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification.
  • Current First Aid Qualification.
  • Experience delivering group exercise classes.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Must be over 18.

Desirable

  • Level 3 Personal Trainer Qualification.
  • Previous experience within a leisure, fitness, or health club environment.

Hybrid Receptionist & Gym Instructor / Key Holder

For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to combine both positions into a varied hybrid role.

The successful applicant will split their time between front-of-house reception duties and gym instructor responsibilities, providing excellent customer service while supporting members on the gym floor and delivering group exercise classes.

This role would suit an individual who enjoys working in a customer-facing environment and is passionate about fitness and member engagement.
