Full job description

We are looking for an experienced Hotel Receptionist to join our team at Langley Castle Hotel.

Set within a unique 14th-century castle in the beautiful Northumberland countryside, Langley Castle is a busy 4-star hotel where providing a high standard of personal service is at the heart of what we do.

The Role

As a Hotel Receptionist, you will be responsible for providing a professional and welcoming service to our guests whilst ensuring the smooth running of the reception operation.

Your duties will include:

  • Welcoming guests and completing check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Handling reservations, amendments, cancellations and booking enquiries.
  • Answering telephone calls and responding to guest emails.
  • Processing payments and maintaining accurate guest records.
  • Providing information about the hotel and local area.
  • Liaising closely with housekeeping, restaurant, maintenance and management teams.
  • Dealing confidently with guest requests, problems and complaints.
  • Resolving issues wherever possible and knowing when matters need to be escalated to management.
  • Managing busy periods while maintaining a calm and professional approach.
  • Dealing with unexpected situations and changing priorities throughout the shift.
  • Ensuring all reception procedures, security and cash-handling requirements are followed.
  • Maintaining accurate records and completing general administrative duties.
  • Ensuring the reception area and entrance provide a welcoming first impression.
  • Assisting other departments when required as part of the wider hotel team.

What We Are Looking For

Previous hotel reception experience is essential

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is confident dealing with guests
  • Can remain calm and professional when under pressure.
  • Is able to think on their feet and use their own initiative.
  • Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Is organised and able to manage several tasks and priorities at once.
  • Understands that hospitality does not always follow a predictable routine.
  • Is reliable, well presented and professional.
  • Works well as part of a team but is equally comfortable working independently.
  • Has good computer skills and experience using a hotel PMS or booking system.
  • Takes pride in delivering a genuinely personal service to guests
